If you’re interested in learning more about bees and Urban Beekeeping, then you’ll want to head down to OmCulture (2210 N. Pacific Street) this Friday (June 14) at 7:00PM for a potluck supper with Seattle Urban Permaculture. Bob Redmond, creator of the Common Acre’s “Flight Path” honey bee project at Sea-Tac.
In WINGS AND WHEELS, Bob Redmond will talk about bee and human food systems. The talk will cover a history of bees, kinds of bees, the impact of bees in food production, and ways that bees create their own food network. We’ll also look at the phenomenon of Urban Beekeeping, its pros and cons, and best-case models for implementing bees and bee habitat in an urban setting.
A journeyman-level certified beekeeper, Bob runs Urban Bee Company and the non-profit The Common Acre, whose focus is on “culture and agriculture.” A Seattle resident since 1988, Bob helped start Seattle’s first Tent City, was the first editorial staff at Real Change Newspaper, and is a past Program Director at Town Hall Seattle. Bob’s work in urban agriculture includes Steering Committee membership in the Beacon Food Forest (Jan 2011 – April 2012), and leadership positions with the Puget Sound Beekeepers Association and the national organization Certified Naturally Grown. New work includes a collaboration between the Port of Seattle and The Common Acre, which will develop pollinator habitat at the airport.
