After a long period of decline, lackluster participation and lack of interest, the Wallingford Art Walk is going for a reboot, back in the hands of Cutz’s Colleen Kurke.
“Art has always been a passion of mine,” says Colleen. “So much hard work has been done in the past years to make the Wallingford Art Walk what it is today, and I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to be the Art Walk Chair for 2013. To me, it’s all about building community and promoting the local artists and businesses that make Wallingford such a wonderful neighborhood to call home.”
As of this Wednesday, Wallingford Art Walk is switching from its somewhat-hard-to-remember “first Wednesday of every other month all year” schedule, to a more manageable “every second Wednesday, May to September” schedule, 6:00 – 9:00 pm.
The Art Walk was moved from the first to second Wednesday to avoid collision with the Wallingford Community Council meeting, which was also on the first Wednesday of the month. The switch to every month should help alleviate the “was it last month or this month” uncertainty.
Art Walk will kick-off with live music by Primary Colors on the plaza at Wallingford Center and a variety of art at participating businesses, including a special opening reception for a mother and daughter art show at Diva Espresso (4615 Stone Way N.). “Always Connected to You” will feature work from illustrator/artist Kelly J. Brownlee and her 9 year-old daughter, Lily, who came up with the theme of showing their love for one another. As an added twist, neither will be showing one another their art until the show’s reception on Wednesday.
According the latest map of participating businesses, there are seven signed up so far, stretching from Wallingford Center to Stone Way.
If Cliff Mass has his way, Wednesday night should be a beautiful evening for art walkin’.
I miss th evibrancy of these events form when Not A Number coordinated them with open doors and hearts.
