Following Seafair’s announcement on Tuesday, that the Blue Angels would not be coming this summer, Mayor Mike McGinn issued the following statement:
A fireworks show on the Fourth of July is a civic tradition. I, like many Seattle residents, was disappointed to learn last week that there would not be fireworks this year at Gas Works Park. That’s why I am delighted to announce that we are working with Seafair and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce to craft a new and sustainable plan for Fourth of July fireworks in Seattle. I am optimistic that we will indeed have fireworks this year in our city. I thank Seafair and the Seattle Metro Chamber of Commerce for their commitment to Seattle and for their leadership. We will announce more details soon.
Later in the day, the Mayor told KIRO Radio that, “Seafair is stepping up to become the sponsor of the event and make this a ‘Seafair Signature Event'”.
That said, could the location of the fireworks move to Lake Washington? At this point, it’s too soon to say, but we’ll keep you posted when more details become available.
with all the tax’s being evaded I would hope someone would step up.
I am sure the mayor will come to Gasworks and help clean up after the ‘privileged’ who use the park and the event as their own drunk out throw trash everywhere time. Nothing family about littering or drinking in excess.
