Heads-up, folks: the University Bridge will be closed this weekend. Here’s the scoop from The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT):
The University Bridge will be closed the weekend of March 23-24 in order to make in-water repairs to be to the north fender of the bridge which was damaged in an earlier marine accident.
The bridge will close at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 23. It will remain closed until 10 p.m. Saturday evening. At that point, the bridge will reopen until 6 a.m. Sunday morning, when it will again close. The bridge is slated to reopen Sunday evening at 10 p.m., but will reopen earlier if the contractor is able to finish the work earlier.
We expect to place electronic message boards at both ends of the bridge soon to give motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians good advance warning. Naturally, we have also notified the police and fire departments of the closure.
