It’s the first of March which means for the next two weeks, we’ll be seeing neighborhood Girl Scouts and their parents out in front of QFC, hawking their delectable selection of Girl Scout Cookies. If you partake, then you might be happy to know that this year, many Girl Scouts will accept credit cards as a form of payment.
Personally, I was never a Girl Scout but thanks to the Girl Scouts of Western Washington, I can tell you how the girls benefit from cookie sales:
What Can a Cookie Do?
For many girls, the Girl Scout Cookie Program is their first entrepreneurial venture and helps foster a sense of achievement that resonates far into the future. Many of today’s successful businesswomen credit their professional accomplishments to their early start in the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Because of this experience, they learned how to be members of a team, work toward a common goal, interact with customers in a professional manner, follow through on a commitment, and strive to do their best.
Selling cookies helps girls develop a wide range of skills, including:
• Goal setting
• Decision making
• Money management
• People skills
• Business ethicsWhat Your Cookie Purchase Funds
A portion of the money raised goes directly to local troops selling cookies, which allows troops to finance program goals and activities such as field trips, camp outings, and community service projects. The remainder helps make Girl Scouting available to every girl in western Washington who would like to participate. Proceeds also help Girl Scouts of Western Washington recruit and train volunteers, maintain campgrounds, and support initiatives such as outreach, science activities, career workshops and financial
assistance.
Plus, they’re just plain tasty, in my opinion!
I support the Girl Scouts; however, until GMOs have been removed from the cookie recipes, I won’t be buying any cookies.
Gluten free cookies would be nice too!
i’d like some zero calorie cookies. i am boycotting until they deliver.
You guys are hilarious. Oh Seattle, don’t ever change. 😉
Do the Girl Scouts follow the same rules as the Boy Scouts concerning LGBT troop leaders and members?
Claudia, the Girl Scouts are the exact opposite of the Boy Scouts – they’re open and affirming. Which is why i DO buy cookies, as opposed to Mary. Which kinda cracks me up.
Oh Seattle, don’t ever change.
