Ed Hartman over at The Drum Exchange wanted to let folks know about a prowler in the neighborhood:
A prowler has trespassed through several businesses’ back doors, attempting to steal computers, etc. He’s African American, about 6 ft. tall, medium-build with a mustache. He’s been seen drinking a can of either tea or beer and appears slightly drunk, and he smokes cigarettes
He walked into our business today (Mon Feb 18, 2013 4pm) saying he didn’t realize it wasn’t OK to do. He was not threatening. He did a similar thing to a neighbor business on Saturday Feb 16, 2013 in the afternoon, while the business was open and returned again there, today.
We did call 911, although no crime was reported (except for possible trespassing). He is definitely checking out businesses. Wallingford businesses should be extremely vigilant and aware. All residences and businesses should keep all non-public entrances locked.
Please call to discuss, and pass the word: (206)545-3564. [email protected]
While I’ve got your attention, here’s some information about an upcoming Safety Meeting hosted by the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Seattle Police Department:
Please join both the Wallingford & Fremont Chamber of Commerce members for the monthly Safety & Security meeting at the Seattle Bank on February 26th, from 9:00 am-10:30 am.
This month Loren Street, Community Police Team Officer, will be presenting to the group about current crime statistics in the north precinct. He will also talk to the group about the “Ins & Outs” of acquiring increased police presence in our areas.
Please join us every month for these meetings for both business owners & residents of Wallingford & Fremont. The meetings are always the last Tuesday of each month at the Seattle Bank, 1227 N Allen Pl Seattle, WA 98103 (next door to Tutta Bella). The meetings take place each month at 9:00 am-10:30 am.
We appreciate the mention in Wallyhood!
(Clarification) “He walked into our business today”
Just to be clear, this person came in the BACK door of our business, without our permission. That entrance is not our public entrance. This person is potentially looking for open doors to businesses in daylight hours. We are warning businesses to keep their back doors, loading areas, and non-public entrances locked. He has been seen in office areas looking for items to take. In addition, he is driving a car.

I love our Wallingford community watch habits, and really appreciate Ed’s early warning to be vigilant. Please also, everyone, be aware of the danger of mistaken identities, even when there’s a good description of someone behaving suspiciously. For example, aside from the can of “tea or beer” and appearing to be slightly drunk, this description would apply to a friend of mine who lives on my block in Wallingford, who is a dear neighbor. Hate to imagine him being looked at as a criminal by those who pass on the sidewalk every day.
Please post information from the presentation by Loren Street. thanks for the coverage of this topic.
When I came into work on Monday, I found empty beer cans on the front porch. On Tuesday, I found a bag of beers and some food. In the past, I found someone still asleep and had to ask them to leave. They were very nice about it. Thanks for the information about the prowler.

Not sure if this is related but my car and at least one neighbor’s car was “prowled” on Monday night. They did not break any windows and got only about $.50 and a car charger from my car, but it is good to be aware and not leave valuables in your car.
1hat dies acting suspiciously mean> In this case?
how do you know he is looking for items to take?
Because he was the same person that did try to take items at a neighbors business. The doors he is using are unmarked. We were able to stop him. My advice is be vigilant and keep your back doors closed.
the wife just told me fusion beads was burglarized last night.
I seriously doubt this is related, but on the topic of break-ins: last Wed. or Thurs. a car was broken into on Bagley near 46th — likely 2 windows or a windshield, judging by the amount & location of window glass in the street & on the curb and in the grass. Lots of glass chunks on both the sidewalk side and the street side.
