Back in September, we wrote about Abacus West, an after school math enrichment program at the Good Shepherd Center. Now, Abacus West is offering math classes during weekday hours to allow homeschoolers to take advantage of the program. Here’s a little bit of info:
Starting in January 2013 Abacus West is offering enrichment math classes during weekday daytime hours making it convenient for homeschoolers to join this popular program. Classes will be offered at Wallingford’s historic Good Shepherd Center. Abacus West is a highly effective program which teaches foundational math skills to children aged 5 to 12 in a fun and interactive manner. Students are taught how to maneuver the beads of an abacus, and also how to visualize a “mental abacus”, which enables them to perform math calculations in their heads. This program uses auditory, visual and kinesthetic teaching techniques to provide a multi-sensory learning environment. The benefits of the program go well beyond improved math fundamentals, and extend to increased concentration, higher self-confidence and the development of visualization skills. In addition to these classes for homeschoolers, we also offer classes after school and on weekends in Wallingford, Redmond and Sammamish. Please visit the website to learn more: www.abacuswest.com .
