As mentioned in an earlier post, the Wallingford Chamber of Commerce will be donating food to FamilyWorks this holiday season in lieu of spending money on decorating the trees along 45th Street in Wallingford.
So – families, friends, clubs, schools – here’s your chance to decorate a tree or two or more for the holidays! There are 25 trees on N. 45th between Sunnyside and Stone Way that need festive, weather-resistant decorations.
As an adopter, you will be responsible for collecting and hanging the decorations as soon as possible and removing them sometime during the first week of January 2013.
The Chamber’s goal is that the decorations be “… low cost with no carbon foot print,” so the decorations should not require electrical power and ideally be made of re-used materials.
If you do re-use recyclable or landfill-bound materials in your decorations, Wallingford will get credit for an outreach activity for the Think Green Recycling Challenge. We’ll also want to get a photo of your deep-green tree to send to the Recycling Challenge.
To sign up to adopt and decorate a tree, email barb@raaen with your requested tree location(s) along 45th. So far we have received requests to decorate 12 trees.
I just created a board on Pinterest with some ideas for recycled ornaments. If anyone else has ideas, please post them! http://pinterest.com/seattlekimberly/recycled-holidays/
I think this is an excellent and I can’t wait to see the results!
oops, I mean, excellent IDEA!
