Sharon Ehrig, also known as Wallingford’s Woodlawn Santa, phoned to let us know she won’t be able to don the red suit and wave from her porch during this year’s holiday season:
“Because of my husband’s needs this year and our health, I’m not doing Santa, much to my dismay,” she told me. “I’ll decorate the porch a little bit, but I’ll definitely be downsizing this year, which is really a blow for me.”
In years past (16, to be exact!) Sharon has lovingly festooned her home with over 15,000 lights, reindeer, snowmen, and candy canes and so much more. Every three weeks in December, she’s greeted folks with a wave and a smile while wearing her Santa suit; but it’s become a bit too difficult this year with her husband’s health concerns. She hopes to be back as Santa next year.
Sharon plans to do a little decorating for Halloween this year, though, and since her neighbor has offered to help out on Halloween Eve, she’ll be greeting trick or treaters while dressed in all her ghoulish finery!
If you stop by during Trick or Treating (3916 Woodlawn Avenue), ask her about her ghoulish scream!
