This Friday, Stone Soup Theatre kicks-off its 2012 season with Wdeunfrol Wdors – 8 Vignettes by Shel Silverstein and David Ives. Here’s a synposis:
Stone Soup Theatre opens its 2012 season with a vibrant slate of one acts featuring the darkly comic wit of Shel Silverstein juxtaposed with the absurdly wry humor of David Ives. The result is a truly unique theatrical experience where we realize that sometimes saying the right thing can be very wrong. Enjoy the quirky wit of two comic greats, in a collection of 8 short plays, exploring the (often clumsy) art of communication: a couple struggling to escape from the bonds of “party talk”; a tourist lost in translation in a foreign bazaar; miscommunication at the laundry; a philosophical discussion between three monkeys, as they type away in the hopes of creating ”Hamlet”.
Director Maureen Hawkins (Young Man from Atlanta and Durang 7), handpicked these pieces from An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein, and from Ives’ All in the Timing (winner of the 1994 Outer Critics Circle award for playwriting) and Lives of the Saints. Ives recent Broadway hit, Venus In Fur, just closed at the Lyceum after a 5 month run. This production features the acting talents of Jaryl Draper, Erin Ison, James Lyle, Sarah Rose Nottingham, Rebecca Parker O’Neill, and Zachariah Robinson.
The performance runs Thursday – Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 4pm from October 19 – November 11, with previews Oct. 17, and 18 at $12.50 per show. General admission prices are $14 -$25, $18 for seniors. All Thursdays after preview are Pay-What-You-Will.
