You’re gonna want to stick around in the neighborhood this Saturday (October 27) because there are two, count ’em, two family-style carnivals you won’t want to miss:
Bring the family to The Good Shepherd Center and Meridian Park from 1:00-4:00pm for The Meridian School’s annual Fall Carnival — A Wallingford tradition that’s been around for over 30 years!
The carnival takes place in the school’s South Annex gym adjacent to the Good Shepherd Center’s south parking lot, as well as in the southern portion of Meridian Park and the picnic shelter outside the school gym. The Good Shepherd Center is located at 4649 Sunnyside Avenue North.
Carnival admission is free, and tickets for activities and games are available for a nominal fee. Here’s a sneek peek at some of the fun:
Everyone is welcome to attend this popular community event that features food, fun prizes, and dozens of indoor and outdoor games and activities for kids of all ages, including a haunted house, face painting, raffle, and more. A professional photographer will also be on-hand to take Halloween portraits.

After that, head over to the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club (1310 N. 45th Street) from 6:00pm to 9:00pm for some Halloween Hoopla. The Halloween-themed carnival includes Frankenstein’s Lab (suitable for all ages) and a creepy maze of horrors inside a haunted house (better for older kids). Plus, there will be a cake walk, arts and crafts, carnival games, and the ever-popular “Cream the Counselor”. Seriously, what’s not to love? One buck buys 5 activity tickets, and if you bring in cans of food, each can is worth a ticket (after you pony-up the buck).
It would sure simplify all things Halloween to always celebrate it on the last Saturday in October, trick-or-treating and all. Easier, safer, not a school day or a school night . . .
When it says ‘better for older kids’ what does that mean? Middle/high school? My kids are 7 & 9, does that qualify as older kids, or is that too young? Just curious…..
Hi Kara, in the past they have indicated that it’s better for Tweens and Teens, but I would double check when you get there.
My kids are in kindergarten and 4th grade and we went a couple of years ago (we missed last year) and had a great time! Also, they are needing supplies, if anyone has some to donate they can bring them to the front office:
(1) cake mixes and frosting
(2) “Cool Whip”
(3) Candy
They have a board by the office showing how much has been donated so far, and it looks like they could still use quite a bit more help!
