OMG! Oprah is coming to Wallingford! I love her! She’s got had show and the book club and was in the Color Purple and…
Wait, what? Oh. Opera. Opera is coming to Wallingford. Well, that’s cool, too, I guess.

We are so excited to invite you to a very intimate production of Puccini’s La Boheme right in the heart of Wallingford. We are excited to bring some of the region’s most up-and-coming young opera singers, many of whom have received honors and awards in the Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions, and many who have performed with Seattle Opera, Tacoma Opera, Skagit Opera, Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Concert Opera, and many others. This is the perfect date night opera, and the perfect opera for first time opera go-ers; grab a bite to eat on 45th, and walk over to Chapel for an incredibly romantic evening of one of opera’s most popular love stories (and get out in time get some comfort food over at Molly Moon’s after the show!).Spielplatz Productions and Vespertine Opera Theater bring Puccini’s beloved opera to the intimate setting of the Chapel Performance Space. The cast includes Jon Farmer, Tess Altiveros, Ksenia Popova, Jose Rubio, Ryan Bede, Micah Parker and Brian Trunk. This is interesting, as Seattle Opera will also do La Bohème in Spring 2013, and is of course in the middle of another Puccini production (Turandot) right now. That’s Puccini with a double-C by the way…regardless a lot of Puccini in Seattle these days.
This was absolutely fantastic. It was sold out. Act now if you want to see it on Thursday as I understand there are less than half-a-dozen tickets left. They installed risers on each side of the chapel so you had good sight lines. As has now become standard, supratitles were projected on the walls. The performers were almost entirely the cast of Tacoma Opera’s La Boheme from last season. To see such an opera performed so well with the cast no more than 30 feet from you was an exceptional treat. Lets hope they come back to the chapel next year for their Barber of Seville.
