Karen asked us to keep an eye out for her dog, Puzzle. Here’s the note she posted most recently to Craigslist:
Lost Black Dog Near Gasworks Park in Seattle, WA – last seen Friday night at 11 PM Tangletown (Kensington between 52nd and 53rd)
Her name is Puzzle — a 60lb black Viszla/lab mix — ran away Thursday night from Gas Works Park. She was last seen Friday night at 11 PM Tangletown (Kensington between 52nd and 53rd), but is expected to have headed back towards Gas Works Park. She is all black with a small white badge on her chest, and her muzzle is going gray. She was wearing a green collar with tags when she went missing.
She is EXTREMELY SHY, especially around men, so PLEASE DO NOT CHASE! Call Karen at 215-703-7244 or Cheryl at 301-919-4396 ANY TIME if you see her or have found her. We are offering a $500 reward.
The search dog on Saturday morning then tracked her path from 53rd and Kensington to Gas Works Park. We don’t know which way she went from there. We did not hear from anyone who saw her Saturday. She may be hiding in a backyard or is somewhere now that we don’t have flyers (lower UW near the water or somewhere near the water on the outskirts of Fremont). We need a recent sighting to re-start the search dog as more than 24 hours have passed since the last lead.
Hi All:
A few updates: Yesterday, we got another call reporting a sighting Saturday night at Latona and 65th. We now think that maybe the search dog tracked her trail backwards, that she left the gas works area on Friday after the thunderstorms, headed to North Wallingford/Tangletown and has stayed in that area.
Unfortunately, Puzzle has a lot of experience of living on the streets. She was a stray for over a month before she was rescued and adopted. This means she’s a survivor, and is probably doing ok, but also means she won’t easily be caught. She’s likely hiding during busy times and only coming out at night or when it’s quiet.
PLEASE — if you live in the Wallingford or Tangletown area, especially between 50th and 65th, check your back yards, sheds and other small spaces.
If you do see her — PLEASE do not call or chase her. She is very shy and will likely run away!! If she’s stationary, do your best to limit her escape routes without getting too close and then call us.
The attached website has the descriptions of the sightings we’ve had so far. WE ARE SO CLOSE — we just need someone to see her and call us before she can go too far.

So very much hope she is found and returned to her people very soon!
Puzzlesmom: I am so sorry about your dog being missing! It’s an awful feeling not knowing where a fur friend has gone.
I wonder which search dog/human team you used? I ask because, when my cat was missing a few years ago, I used a team I later discovered was fraudulent and being brought up on charges in several states. The information he gave me was totally incorrect and, if I’d listened to him, I would never have found my cat.
I’m bringing this up only so you don’t spend too much time focusing on the information you were given — if it was the same person/dog. So, if you’d like to know more, please give me a way to reach you. (I can’t risk him getting my contact info again since he watches threads related to his jobs and harasses anyone who tries to warn others about him.)
Puzzle is HOME!!!
She’s safe and she seems to be ok.
This morning, after about 100 hours away, she just came home. We’ve been leaving the back door open and I was sleeping on the couch and she just walked into the living room. Gasworks park (where she was lost) is about 1.5 miles from my house, and most of the sightings we had of her were another mile or so in a different direction. But she found her way back. She’s a bit dirty but seems completely ok otherwise. She’s sleeping right next to me as I type.
Thanks to all for the support — at times it felt like the whole city was looking for her. I’m so thrilled to report a happy ending.

Also, the search dog we used was through Missing Pet Partnership. Both the search dog+handler and other MPP volunteers have been great through this ordeal.
Wonderful! We’ve been keeping an eye and ear out since we met you while you were searching in your car the day after the 4th (east Wallingford). Love a happy ending! Thanks Wallyhood for bringing this to the collective attention.
Thanks for the update. So glad to hear Puzzle made it home!
Good news!
Wonderful! We had been keeping an eye out in Fremont for Puzzle as well!
Excellent! And thanks for posting the good news.

might be a good time to take puzzle for a LONG walk and pull down the 6 million flyers posted to every pole in N. Seattle….
I took down 26 of the flyers yesterday. Yes, they posted an awful lot of them….
I will happily pull down any puzzle posters I see. Glad to hear the story has a happy ending! Cheers!
Now that there’s a happy ending, is it OK if we talk about–a leash?
Fruitbat, you read my mind. Been wondering about that all along.
That is great news that Puzzle is home (and I also look forward to the removal of all the posters).
It is good that this particular story ended happily, as so many stories of this kind do not. I’ll add my hope that all dogs out in public places will be kept on leash and safe.
