What parent doesn’t want their child to grow up to be a rock n’ roll star? Besides the congenial family nights in the living room enjoying the warm, mellifluous whisper of a stratocaster, the opportunity to travel, healthy lifestyle and reliable if predictable career path make it second only to dentist or architect* when it comes to dream professions.
Well, parents, here’s your opportunity to get your kiddo off on the right foot. Creative Music Adventures in Wallingford is offering Rock Star Camp this summer. :
This camp will be a fun exploration of popular music for kids. Participants will be grouped according to their playing level and experience. Each group will rotate through different pods where they will learn contemporary, child friendly songs on different instruments [including] piano, drums and guitar. Campers will larn about chords, sight reading, ear training and ensemble playing. The campers will be able to play in “bands” where they will record a CD of the music they work on throughout the camp.
Hopefully, the camp will also include an explanation for the kids of what a “CD” is.
Margaret Brown explains “We are forming rock bands that will be active in the months of July and August and are looking for musicians between the ages of 11 and 16. These will be taught by our guitar instructor, Zach Stewart and will include a Beatles Band, a Classic Rock band and an All-Girl Band.”
If rock’s not your (or your kid’s) thing, they are also offering Jazz Camp for ages 11 and up, starting July 30th. More info on the Creative Music Aventures web site.
Well, Baby Z is already in training, working on his big hit I’m a Poached Egg. For the rest of y’all, here’s inspiration from last year’s class:
* Actually, given that architects have taken it on the chin these past few years, what with the house market collapse and the general economic drearines, rock star probably has architect beat.
I’m a Poached Egg is sure to go to the top of the charts right along with Horse and Wagon.
