It’s hard to find the right words …but Jeannie and I had to make the difficult decision to close Oasis Art Gallery. The state of the economy over the last few years has significantly affected art sales and the last six months have been particular challenging. Although our dedication to promoting emerging artists has never wavered, we have finally determined that we can no longer continue to operate the gallery.
We cannot imagine a better show with which to end. This ‘Perspectives’ exhibition exemplifies everything we stood for over the last seven and a half years: promoting the creative passion and impeccable skill of Seattle’s local talent and offering high quality fine art at approachable prices. We hope you will stop by before July 7th to support these artists and bring home something from this amazing collection of work. (3 pieces have sold already!)The gallery will be open until July 7th, closed for a week to prepare for the Wedgwood Art Festival (which we hope you will attend!) and then we will be open again for a few weeks to offer great sales on frames, furniture, and display materials. More details to come and possibly some fun sidewalk sales on the summer weekends. Most importantly, we do not want to lose touch with you. Take a minute to follow Alex at Strazzanti Photography via Facebook and Twitter and you will continue to receive e-newsletters from him after July.
We have truly enjoyed the people we have met and the path we have traveled. It is because of patrons like you that made the gallery become what it was. We hope you will stop by in the next months to see us and say goodbye.
All the best,
Jeannie & Alex
Alex also asked us to pass along the following message to the neighborhood:
A special thank you to the Wallingford neighborhood, residents and businesses who supported us over the seven and a half years we were a part of this special community!
Thank you for everything. Your kindness to others and love of art will remain a legacy to us and notbe easy for anyoen to follow. I hope youremain in the area and in another way when its time express yourselves through this love.
I am very sad to hear this. May gifts from my husband have come from Oasis. Alex and Jeannie are great folks and I wish them the best.
Say it ain’t so! Another wonderful community living room bites the dust, but what a great run. As a customer and an art exhibitor there, I love how they reinvented the classic inhibiting stereotype of art galleries and crafted such an engaging eclectic mix.
The Wedgwood Art Festival is like a mini-Oasis and many of the gallery exhibitors participate (plus food and live music), well worth the hike northeast of here. Alex is a fantastic photographer of people, artwork, home-for-sale interiors and exteriors, pets . . . Jeannie not only never forgets a face or a name; they and their place will be missed.
Support the little guys and gals while you can, they are vanishing.
Fond, fond memories. Wonderful people. Best wishes for your new endeavors. An oasis, indeed.
One “little guy” meaning small business if that wasn’t clear is Jay at Emerald City Gardens on Leary. If having his little venture there makes you happy celebrate this glorious gardening season by giving his business a bump. Not a flash mob, just a bump.
Sorry to hear of a great shop closing its’ doors. Challenging location on Wallingford ave, whenever I saw an open storefront near 45th I thought Oasis should move here. Maybe some day in the future. Best wishes…………..
