This Wednesday will once again test the wisdom of Wallingford’s every-other-month Art Walk schedule. According the Wallingford Art Walk web site, there are 23 businesses participating from 6 – 9 pm, including Fuel Coffee, which will be featuring an artist reception for Kathy Liao (at right), Smash Wine Bar, which will be featuring the work of octogenarian Lorraine Fryett (below) and the Blue Star Cafe and Pub, which will be featuring the work of David Weiner as well as offering a food special (50% off second entree if you mention Art Walk).
In our mind, what is frequently missing piece from Wallingford Art Walk is the artists themselves on hand to chat about their work over some nibbles and maybe a glass of wine*. Walking into a store or restaurant and peering over diner’s heads at the wall, then walking back out isn’t much fun. Most restaurants have art on the wall, so why should we make a special trip on this night?
So it’s good to hear that Kathy at Fuel, for example, will be on hand for a reception and StuStudio down by 40th and Stoneway (in back of Pagliacci’s) is nothing but an art studio, so you can count on an artist being present. We can’t tell which of the others will be hosting receptions, but encourage those who are to let us know, we’ll post a day-of reminder with a list.
* Every time we mention that some art walk artist receptions serve (heaven forfend) alcohol, we hear a angry clucking that it’s illegal and blah blah blah. It’s done all over the city and it’s fine. You won’t change our mind, but cluck away.
I’ll work hard to get Lorraine out to SmashWine Wed evening.
It’s the right idea.
thanks
