This came to us today via “Seattle Meridian”:
At 10:30 am this morning, my kids and I saw four kittens at the Meridian playground (west middle entrance). If someone is missing them, they are there. Although, I’m guessing someone dumped the kittens as they were shivering and looked confused. So, if anyone wants kittens, there are two gray kittens and two whitish kittens. All were friendly and wanted lots of pets!
Even if nobody wants to adopt these kittens, could some kindly person please at least pick them up and take them to PAWS or the Animal Shelter? I don’t drive or I would do so myself! They clearly shouldn’t be left outdoors without care. And curses to the cruel people who dumped them!
oohh who is going to go pick them up? That was not a good enough description to knwo where to go get them.
Theyll get sick.
Well, the kittens were found at 10:30am this morning. I really doubt they’re in the same spot. That was over 8 hours ago. Whoever goes to get them might have to search a bit.
A group of us just went looking. No luck. I hope someone else saw them this morning and took action. Who could just leave them there?
I wont have time til mid day to morrow, but will go up and look around. I am hoing that families with kids playing found them an dtook them home o rto shelter.
Cats and kittens tend to remain very close to where they were left. They may hide, however, and may be invisible within local plants and shrubs.
Why didn’t the people who initially spotted these wee ones just scoop them up and take them to a shelter? To leave them outside and defenseless seems as cruel as dumping them!
Thank you to folks who are looking for the kittens with the intention of delivering them to shelter. Boo to the people who just left them out there.
Sorry we didn’t take them. We were in a rush (elder family in town and appointments to keep) and I thought we could reach out to the community for some help. I sent the email to Wallyhood about 20 min after we left the park. We have some time today and will look around for them. Please keep an eye out for them if you live in that area.
I just took a look 12:00 and did not see them. Now I know where they were I will go back and look again.
If anyone finds them you can email me at [email protected].
I have a rescue contact that should be able to help place them.
I havent been yet. I might be interested in a grey one.
I took a very good look all along the west fence(along Meridian) this afternoon, all the way to 50th and there is no sign of them. Hopefully they were picked up and taken care of.
By chance, my daughter and I went to the humane society down in Ballard today. I saw this message on Wallyhood when I came home. From the pictures, I think we saw three of these kittens at the shelter. Two grayish/beige kittens (look part siamese) and a gray tabby – all with blue eyes and very long hair in their ears. They look like the pictures posted here. We were told they were just recently brought in…..
Hope the fourth kitty can be found and homed!
humane society in ballard./? do u mean Interbay?
where in ballard?
Horrible that people are too busy to help the defenseless! There is just no excuse for leaving those kittens ‘shivering and looked confused.’ I hope your pets or children never need help from strangers!
I went and looked all up and down the west fence and saw no kittens. I wish the person who informed us about kittes at ??Ballard? shelter had found out if 3 or 4 came in together. My sad gues sis that one was killed or lost.
Coolio, Chances are the kittens would have been taken to Seattle Animal Control since they were Seattle strays. I have not called yet but there is a listing of all animals brought into the shelter on the phone (386-PETS) and a paper log. It will list an address for where they animals came from. Hopefully the three seen at SAC are these guys, now safe, and that the finders kept the fourth one. Let this be a lesson in compassion for us all.
I agree, the very best option for animals needing help is the Seattle Animal Shelter, 2061 15th Ave W, Seattle, about one mile south of the Ballard Bridge. Cats and kittens brought into the shelter will be treated for fleas and earmites if needed, feline leukemia tested, vaccinated and spayed or neutered before they are found a good home.
Wow, many digs at everyone. The goal of the original poster was to let folks know that the kittens were there. To pile on the guilt will surely keep this person from posting concerns/calls to action again to his/her neighbors again. Yes, many folks would have scooped them up and taken them to the appropriate location. Not all of us are able to always do what others expect of us.
Obviously, the posting worked. Folks were out there right away looking. So calm down. And, the Ballard shelter – most folks from around here know there is only one in the Ballard area. The comments about why not more info, do you mean this, what’s wrong with people. Wow, again. So glad you’re so compassionate about animals but not your fellow Wallingfordians. Shame on some of you!
I have to agree. There has been too much shooting the messenger on this subject.
If you would like to be mad at someone be mad at the (put your own bad word here) that left those kittens to die.
Enough said.
oh heavens sakes sara.. you are so rightttttt!
We are all chumps and stupid.
Everyone knows that the Humane Society which is located in InterBay is actually considered in Ballard. Everyone knows this. Except us stupid people.
A better suggestion is NOT to email wallyhood and expect them to post it immediately.. BUT instead to post it oneself either onto a forum or as a tag on another post and ask some one else to post it and of course to immediately call a humane society wherever it is located.
Being rude to people who express concern does nothing. What is wrong with people? Did you go look?
Thanks Sara and Geek. You are right, of course. The messenger meant well, and action was taken by the community.
My husband and I found the 3 kittens and a larger gray cat at 10:40 a.m. Thurs by 11:30 a.m. the three kittens were safely housed at Animal Control at Interbay. The 3 kittens are healthy and will be placed for adoption this Wed. They are beautiful kitties, well socialized and should be immediately adopted per Animal Control. The fourth cat required the help of Alley Cat Project to capture her as she was so frightened. We thought she was the mother but the Shelter Vet said no she had never lactated. We may have a mother cat in Meridian Play Field hiding out. If anyone finds her but cannot rescue her please call Deborah at 234-7739 of Alley Cat Project. If you are interested in adopting one of these cats their case number is: 12-4353-1-3.
Thank you to all the animal lovers in Wallingford.

I think we all need to thank Margeret for her original posting, which resulted in the community acting in best interests of the kitties and potentially the mother cat. Also, thanks to all who have acted! Seeing to the needs of vulnerable animals is a community concern, and Margaret instigated the action.
Mary jan: I had just come here to post that you rescued the 3 kittens and another cat and they were now under good care. Glad to see you telling the story here, and I can’t thank you and your husband enough for your big hearts and works. And many thanks to Margaret for submitting the notice to the blog.
