You may remember our last post on this subject: Package Thefts. Now, Marilyn writes:
Amazon shows that I had a book delivered to my porch last Friday night at 6:58. It disappeared sometime during the night. This is the 4th package, all from Amazon, that has gone missing from my porch in 2 months.
While not entirely comforting, at the very least, we can rule out the suspect involved in this month’s rash of burglaries.
Check on Amazon…who is the carrier who delivered the package? The packages I had stolen were being delivered by ONTRAC, frequently used by Amazon for my Amazon Prime 2-day purchases. They were delivered, but stolen afterwards.
Some carriers habitually leave the packages more visible than others.
I happened to talk to the ONTRAC guy on Thackeray one afternoon, and he seemed quite concerned, appreciated the info, and said he would report it to his main office.
When this happened to me a few times I ordered a fake video camera from Amazon and attached it to the side of my house. Works well. I took it down after no one had stolen a package for a year.
When FEDEX supposedly delivered a package to my door which I never saw..it was 70 lb. .. at a time I was just inside an open door.. it turned out after a few hours of emails and calls that the driver had delivered it to a VERY different door.
Amazon offers a service in Seattle called Amazon Locker, where you can send packages to a 24-hour pick-up location (there’s one in the U-District): http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200689010
I too had one Stolen on Thackeray, sometime between 3:50pm and 6:00pm. I reported it to UPS, who said that because it was an Amazon package that their policy said I should report it to Amazon. I also filed a police report, and cursed a lot.
Great. I called ups to tell them they had a problem with theft on their route and now they refuse to deliver to my house. Last time I try to be helpful. And it defeats the purpose of Amazon prime. I’m pissed.
I am the distributor of Package-Park a product which deters incidental theft. Packages are received in a large tough canvas sack which teporarily secures to a door with a steel bracket. It can’t be removed until the door is unlocked. http://www.buy.com/prod/package-park-door-deployed-parcel-box-package-delivery-vault/228217136.html
