Yes, Wallingford, you’ve got music, you’ve got film, you’ve got theater, but do you have dance?
Yes, yes you do.
And no, we don’t care if it’s called “Fremont” Danceworks. Stone Way is Wallingford, or Wallymont at least.
Fremont Danceworks, a troupe of accomplished teen dancers will perform works by leading Seattle-area choreographers in its March show, “XpOsed.” All the performers attend Dance Fremont!, a ballet and modern-dance school, located in the Fremont neighborhood for more than 15 years. A play off of the word, “exposed,” the show’s title reflects the themes audiences will see throughout the evening and matinee performances: an examination of the human spirit, its resilience and vulnerability, presented in a minimalist, black-box theater setting. “XpOsed” features the work of hip-hop and contemporary-dance choreographer, Markeith Wiley, who has created a piece titled “Retort” that depicts an all-girl street scene. Vivian Little, former principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet, will re-stage her 2006 work, “Bugged”: Young ladies meet a pesky mosquito, portrayed by a mischievous ballerina en pointe, and try to run her off with the help of bug spray in this humorous ballet. Brenna Monroe-Cook, formerly of the New-York based Limón Dance Company, has choreographed a new piece set to Mozart music titled “apéritif – digestif”. Mary Kay Bisignano-Vadino, Dance Fremont! faculty member with a M.F.A. in Choreography/Performance from U.C.L.A. has created a work featuring Danceworks graduating senior, Amina Kapusuzoglu.
Finally, Mary Reardon, Danceworks co-founder and former soloist with the Carl Ratliff Dance Theater, will present “Another Day,” which explores the rambling of what goes on in one’s head during the course of yet another 24 hours.

In addition to the dancing posted there is couple dancing Sunday, Tuesday and Thursda at what may be the best dance venue in USA, THE LITTLE RED HEN which is on same block as Starbucks at East Green Lake—there is dancing on weekends, too, but then it is a bit out of whack.
eastside of Stone is Wallingford, westside of the street is Fremont
They used to be located under the bridge, across the street from History House in Fremont until they moved to the great studio space on Stone Way. Vivian, Mary and all the faculty provide a wonderful experience for the dancers – inspiring them and helping them shine in performance. My daughter danced with them for 9 years and I credit the experience there as part of the reason she is so poised and self confident. We are really lucky to have such a great dance studio in the neighborhood – whether you are count yourself as Wallingford OR Fremont!
