Last month, we told you about an “Occupy Wallingford” meeting organized by a few Wallingford residents to discuss neighborhood-specific issues. Now, organizers are holding what they call a “General Assembly” on Monday, February 13, from 7:00PM-9:00PM at Keystone Church (5019 Keystone Place N. at Sunnyside Avenue N.). Everyone is invited to attend. Here are the details:
Those of us living and working in Wallingford need a common space in which to discuss, deliberate, and act as a community of people. Many of our local concerns relate to national and global issues. Come think globally and act locally. Concerned neighbors living in and around Wallingford are calling a community-wide meeting–a neighborhood Town Hall Meeting, participatory democracy. By learning about what global and local issues local people are most concerned with, we can begin to act collectively in ways that directly shape our world for the better. Everyone is invited, as well as friends and neighbors, to bring what local issues they’re most concerned about.
We’re looking to gather neighbors and community groups toward finding what we most have in common. We plan on having open discussion about things that truly matter to the people who live in and around our community, then taking the first steps in addressing those matters, and together come up with a way further. This has spontaneously grown out of interest in what Occupy is about. Please do join us, we need all voices heard. Nobody can speak for you, that is why we need you here.
