The Wallingford Community Council (WCC) and Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) have been negotiating for more than eight months on the terms of a contract concerning the rebuilding of the North Transfer Station. The WCC transfer station working group will present the terms of the contract and its recommendations for approval at the regular WCC meeting on Wednesday. The contract covers a wide variety of issues concerning the rebuilding of the transfer station such as changes to the land use code, public open space, building heights and setbacks, hours of operation, truck traffic, and monitoring and control of noise, odors and emissions. In exchange for SPU’s agreement to the terms of the contract, WCC will agree to not oppose, appeal or file suit against the project.
After months of work, the parties feel that the contract is a win-win for the community and the city. The proposed contract will be presented to the WCC Board for approval at its meeting on Wednesday, February 1, 7:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
