Eva Restaurant deal contributes to Humane Society

Tangletown’s Eva Restaurant (2227 North 56th St.) has got a deal this week through Ideal Network: Spend $20 on $40 worth of food and drink at the restaurant, and they’ll contribute $5.00 to Seattle Humane Society. Donations will go to Seattle Humane Society’s Pet Food Bank, which delivers food for pets to seniors and low-income community members. They hope to meet their goal of raising $5,000 through this promotion, which will help to feed 185 pets in a year.

Huh? There’s a parade in Wallingford tonight?

The answer to the headline is “No!” although you wouldn’t know it if you followed King County Metro on Twitter. Not once, but twice in the past 24 hours, King County Metro Tweeted the following, and it’s been re-tweeted by dozens of people:

There is a parade this evening, but it’s in Greenwood, so there will be no road closures in Wallingford; but please check your normal bus routes to see if they’re affected. It looks like only Route #5 (Local and Express) is affected, starting at 4pm., and even so, the only re-routes are up in Greenwood.

Izilla Family Picnic Party this Thursday

This Thursday, Izilla Toys is hosting their third Family Picnic Party on the Wallingford Center patio, from 5:30 – 8pm. Dubbed “Le Tour de Zilla,” kids can bring their trikes, balance bikes, scooters, and bikes to take part in the “World’s Smallest Stage Race,” with little prizes for every participant. Plus, there will be ice cream floats made with Hansen’s Natural Soda and bike-themed raffle prizes generously donated by Michael Ward, author of Mike and the Bike.

So, let’s talk about Bill the Butcher, shall we? Seems they’ve been getting some interesting press lately, and here are the highlights:

The Seattle Times reports that “This past week, according to a regulatory filing, the company had to undo a major financing transaction and take back 6 million shares it had issued last month.”

Eater Seattle says the company’s latest SEC filing shows that Bill the Butcher now has about $40,000 in cash.

Then, there’s The Stranger, whose “Mystery Meat” article last year questioned the company’s claim of Bill the Butcher’s meat as “certified organic and natural.” Now, they’re …

Boys and Girls Club responds to misconduct charges

On Monday the Seattle PI published an article about a former youth counselor at the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club who has been charged with first degree sexual misconduct with a minor.

King County prosecutors say the former 24 year old counselor had a sexual relationship with a sixteen year old girl. Julian Alfred Young worked at the club from 2009 until the allegations surfaced last fall. Young was charged this week and has not entered a plea.

Vote on Metro funding delayed

The King County Council has made a liar out of me again! The Council did not vote Monday afternoon on the proposed car tab fee that would avoid a 600,000 service hour cut in Metro Services. The vote has been postponed until August 15th. From the Seattle PI:

“After hearing for nearly three hours from concerned transit riders, the King County Council chose Monday to delay a vote on a proposed $20 vehicle license fee that would save bus service from drastic cuts.

The measure would implement a two-year “congestion reduction fee” that would raise $50 million for King County …

The YES Program by Skate Like a Girl

Skate Like a Girl is offering paid and unpaid internships to teens and young adults, ages 12-23, through a new program dubbed Youth Employment Skateboarding (YES). YES is a leadership and employment training program for skateboarders, made possible in part by a grant from the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, as well as residents and businesses in Wallingford, Fremont, and Green Lake. The program calls for 4 interns and 4 coaches in training (CITs) and the program runs from August 1-November 12, 2011. Here’s the breakdown:
