$20 car tab fee enacted, no Metro cuts

Last Friday, King County Executive Dow Constantine announced that the King County Council had enough votes to pass a $20 car tab fee at Monday’s scheduled meeting about Metro funding. If the Council voted to enact the car tab fee, there would be no reason to put that decision before the voters in November. And no reason for Metro to cut 600,000 service hours beginning in February.

Bubbles gets a touch-up

On Sunday, folks around N. 41st St. and Interlake gathered together for a neighborhood block party, and to give Bubbles the Turtle street mural a touch up. Kids were treated to a bouncy house which was still going strong by 8:15 pm when I stopped by.

Neighborhood Bilingual Preschool: Zoom

If you’re interested in sending your pre-schooler to a Spanish-immersion school in the neighborhood, in addition to Cometa Playschool (which we reported on back in June), Zoom Playschool has a Wallingford location with classes for children ages one through ten.

Zoom owner Angelica Camargo reports that Zoom is a Spanish immersion program “that is presented in conjunction with a creative curriculum designed to stimulate intellectual curiosity, develop logical thought processes, support cognitive growth, enhance language opportunities and build phonological and written language skills.”

Goddess Festival: Kid-Friendly, Adult Happy

Tomorrow is the second (and, if the organizers have their way, the larger) of the two Wallingford music festivals, The Goddess Festival. It runs from 11 am to 10:00 pm on Saturday in Meridian Park and includes a line-up of music, comedy, vendors and other funness.

Now, if you’re like us, when you think “music festival”, you think mud-spattered pits of drunken twenty-somethings, passing poorly rolled joints and water bottles filled with Gatorade and Everclear.

What, that’s not how you spent your youth? Yeah, umm…neither did we.

Anyway, that’s totally NOT what the Goddess Festival will be like. For one, …

Last call for food drive

A few days ago, we told you about the food drive organized by some very thoughtful neighborhood teens. Grace and her friends busily collected donations from people’s porches yesterday, but she wanted to let everyone know that people can still drop food donations in bags at these drop points over the next few days:
