Hot off the Twitter:

“Hungry? Stop by our Seattle storefront around 11 AM for a free fluffernutter.” – @archiemcphee

Wha-wha? We called Archie McPhee (1300 N. 45th St) to find out what that meant.

“There’s some people coming in for a photo shoot, then they’ll be handing out fluffernutter sandwiches,” we were told.

But who? And why? Several phone calls later, the mystery was as thick as processed sandwich spread.

New mural at Golden Oldies

It’s been a year since someone plowed through the mural on the side of Golden Oldies.

Now, a new mural adorns the side of the record shop:

Whatddya think, Wallingford? Personally, I miss Elvis and Chuck (though I can still see a little piece of pompadour peeking over the top!)…

You may have noticed lately that someone has been on a tagging spree around the neighborhood, leaving their mark on walls, garbage dumpsters, signs at the park, and on people’s yard waste and recycling cans. The tagger even hit the side of a parked van.

I could take a walk in almost any direction in the neighborhood and every time, I’d count at least three different spots this person has tagged, and it’s the same ugly graphic, spray painted in either black or orange. I’m not going to give the tagger the satisfaction of posting a picture of the tag …

Stoneway Village update

As we were driving home via Bridge Way the other day, my son shouted “LOOK!” so loud from the backseat, I thought I might’ve hit something. But we stopped at the light on Bridge Way at Stone Way and he was pointing to the Stoneway Village construction site across the street, marveling over the fact that there was an actual structure at street level.

Izilla Family Picnic Party this Thursday

Summer’s winding down (sniff, sniff) and this Thursday (8/25) from 5:30-8pm, Izilla Toys is hosting their final Family Picnic Party for the season. The fun takes place on the Wallingford Center’s northwest patio outside and inside by Izilla’s shop. Come and hang out, pack a blanket and a picnic dinner (or bring some delicious takeout from your favorite Wallingford restaurant) and enjoy complimentary natural sodas by Hansen’s. Afterwards, bring the kiddos inside for face painting by the amazingly talented Ryan Alley while you enter for a chance to win a Wallingford Center Merchants Raffle Basket!

Hey, remember that hullaballoo about where the Wallingford Farmers Market was going to end up? Would it be Wallingford Center? The street to the west? Over by QFC’s parking lot? Near Musashi and (heaven forfend) The Drum Exchange?

So, it ended up in Meridian Park, which, doomsaysers predicted, would be its death. (OK, we admit it: we might have had a little doomsay in us, as well).
