My husband and I moved to Wallingford in 2005 from a dark, soulless crevasse of humanity (also known as Sammamish). We realized from our time in the suburbs that we were more of a city family, and so bought the cheapest house we could find in our favorite neighborhood, and haven’t looked back.

Beginning today, the Wallingford liquor store (118 NE 45th St.) will offer tastings of select spirits on Fridays, between 4-6pm. The tastings are a part of the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) “Spirits Tastings Pilot” which runs for one year, from September 1, 2011 to September 1, 2012. The Wallingford liquor store is one of 30 stores participating in the statewide pilot.

According to the WSLCB, “The enabling legislation was at the request of the Distillery Representatives Association of Washington  (DRAW) as a way to introduce premium products to store customers.”

A new salon has moved into the old Alterations and Reweaving space on 45th at Woodlawn (1601 N. 45th St.).

Sugar On Top is holding a pre-opening special: $10 off any service. For now, they accept cash and checks only. The salon’s Grand Opening will be on Saturday, September 10.

The Neighborhood Matching Fund (NMF) program was created in 1988 to provide neighborhood groups with City resources for community-driven projects that enhance and strengthen their own neighborhoods. Wallingford has benefited from these funds in the past, such as the 46th Street Mural and the installation of new playground equipment at McDonald School.

The Fall 2011 cycle of the Small and Simple Projects Fund will have a single focus: emergency preparedness.

Seattle Department of Neighborhoods has partnered with the Office of Emergency Management to offer this funding opportunity designed to help community members plan for emergency situations with their neighbors.  If …
