If you’re thinking about adopting a cat in the new year, then you simply must read this very sweet note we received from Miss Margie’s 2nd grade class at John Stanford International School:
Dear Cat Lovers,
We are Miss Margie’s 2nd grade class at John Stanford International School in Seattle. There is a cat rescue group that we are working with to help. They go all over the northwest and find cats at shelters that are going to be put to sleep forever and rescue them.
Do you want to be a cat foster family to a cat that has been rescued? Those cats are probably going to be euthanized for the whole rest of their lives, meaning they will die! Please help the cats and kittens. They need you! We need help saving these cats because 24 kids can’t do all this work. Help us!
If you want to help:
– please forward this to anyone else you think might be able to help
– to learn more about fostering, email the Seattle Persian and Himalayan Rescue at [email protected].
– You can also email them about adopting or volunteering with the cats at the Seattle U District Petco
Thanks!

Persians and Himalayans only? These are the weird mutations with the flattened face, and attendant health problems? Wouldn’t there also be lots of better looking and healthier cats also awaiting extermination? Maybe that seems callous, to be critical of a doomed cat, but the point is that American Shorthairs and other such breeds are at least equally deserving.
They have a mixture of cats and not just Persians and Himalayans. Please visit the Petco in the U-District to visit and play with these great cats looking for homes!
We were just at Petco in the U-District this weekend & played with the cats there. Fortunately, they all had “adopted” signs… keep up the good work everybody!
Sadly, there is never a shortage of homeless cats. Another (Exceptional!) location nearby that rescues many, many cats; Missy, being the tireless owner of the shop is one of the most selfless, dedicated humans that I have ever encountered. She has often committed her energy to some of the most hopeless feral ‘alley’ cats you could ever imagine, loving and training them into wonderful pets, safe from euthanasia! I could tell you many stories of her magnificent humble kindnesses. By all means… check out volunteer, foster, adopt or sponsor this Gracious effort!! It is ANIMAL TALK at 6514 Roosevelt,98115. The phone # is: (206) 526.1588. Check out the website: http://www.animaltalkrescue.org. My wonderful Taboo was rescued from a cat-hoarder with over 50 long haired cats in Ballard. He loves being ‘alpha’ in our two cat,two human household…
Great going John Stanford 2nd Graders and Miss Margie!!!
BTW: I also have a WONDERFUL 17 year old Himalayan who has welcomed Taboo into our family!!!
Thanks fro the words of encouragement – I will share with my class Tuesday. This rescue group has found homes for nearly 200 cats this year…when the ones at Petco get adopted, we go out to shelters to find more that are in line to be euthanized. But our space at Petco is limited, so if we can find more people to FOSTER cats while we are waiting to find them forever homes, we can save MORE cats. As you all know, there is never a shortage of homeless cats, unfortunately.
Hi, I’m a volunteer with Seattle Persian and Himalayan Rescue. Thanks for posting this – I will repost on our Facebook page!
