Tuesday night I walked out on my deck for some evening air just after 7pm. From that deck, which faces south from Lower Wallingford, I spotted an odd yellow light in the sky. Larger than a star, bigger than a planet.
Then I saw other lights. The lights, about eight of them, were in a rectangular shape. They gave the appearance of “hovering” over West Seattle and the Sound, maybe Queen Anne Hill as well. I called for my partner, Laura, to come quick and to bring her camera.
The rectangle floated up and northeast, in an arc.
Laura said, in whispered awe, “I Just Saw A Real Life UFO.” Wow. Yes, she did. Because we didn’t know what it was, and that made it unidentifiable. And it was in the sky, so it was flying, right? And it had to be an object or we couldn’t see it. So, U.F.O.
Then there were more yellow lights, all trailing behind the rectangle that disappeared over the roof of our building. Perhaps another 8 of them. Each and every one was two to three times bigger than a planet, and LED-yellow. Glowing and light.
I felt oddly at peace.
Oh. My. GAWD did I just think that?? I did. Now I can relate to all those uneducated-sounding UFO enthusiasts in the silly “documentaries” the tv sometimes mistakenly tunes in to when I am not looking.
So, I saw a UFO from my deck in Lower Wallingford. Neato.
Don’t believe me? Am I crazy? Maybe I drink too much.
The Seattle Times quickly proclaimed, “UFO spotted in Seattle.” Read the article here.
But, a couple hours later, they also said, “It’s a bird, a plane, a UFO… or maybe just meteors.” You can read that article here. The first comment is by Laura V., who is my partner and a Wallingfordian. She recorded the incident with her phone. The picture quality could be a LOT better – it didn’t even capture the yellow glow. But you can see that that the lights probably weren’t space junk or a meteor or a plane or weather balloons. At one point on the audio track, I tell Laura she’s not going to like what I think the lights are, and I mention these. Sky lanterns.
Which I’m going to pretend never occurred to me. It’s more fun this way.
So. I saw a real life UFO. From right here in Wallingford.
Update 11/17: NineRoomProductions commented on Laura’s YouTube video: “Lanterns indeed! We lit these of last night from the little mound at GasWorks. They were lit on the one year anniversary of the loss of my greatest friend, Luke Dorsey. He would be tickled at your interest! ” So sorry for your loss. What a beautiful thing to do. Here’s an article about last year’s memorial for those interested.
Now I have to start saying I saw an IFO… identified flying object(s). Thanks for letting us know, NineRoomProductions!
LOL! Sorry I missed them! I probably would have thought the same thing Laura did!
