Nancy Leeson over at the Seattle Times wrote a wonderful piece on Christopher Kong recently, Southeast Asia an inspiration for Seattle chef Chris Kong. She followed the Roosevelt High grad from his time scampering around the kitchen of the restaurant his parents opened in to his internship with Trophy Cupcake and a Ballard fish market to the kitchens of Kuala Lumpur and, of course, back to the restaurant his family runs here in Wallingford, Perche No Past and Vino.
After you give it a read, you may want to sign up for one of Perche No’s Malaysian and Thai nights, when they take a break from their Italian fare to showcase the skills Chris picked up in Southeast Asia. The next one is November 28th and reservations are recommended.
(Perche No is a Wallyhood sponsor.)
We moved from Queen Anne to Wallingford about the same time that perch No? did and we sure felt lucky. Imagine that! Our favorite restaurant from the old neighborhood followed us. Or, more like we followed them. The food is worth it. Delicious and perfecto every time. The pasta reminds me of the kind my uncle Joe used to make at the family’s Italian restaurant. Which my husband described as being the real version of what the Olive Garden pretends to be. The same could be said of Perche No. A Korean couple making the best Italian food in Seattle? Why Not? Perche No? Only in America! Lily Kong comes out every time to our table and greets us like old friends. I still can’t figure out if she really remembers me or if she is just so gracious to every one. my kids love going because she always sends them home with gummy pizzas in their pockets. Sorry to gush on about it but we really love the place and wish their son well.
