Lori Hollow wrote to tell us that she used to substitute teach for Jazzercise classes over at Lincoln High back in the early 90s; but once renovations were slated for the school, the classes had to move further north. Now, 20 years later, Lori has brought Jazzercise back to Wallingford, over at OmCulture beginning tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 4) at 5:30pm. Here’s the Jazzerscoop:
When I moved to Seattle in 1991, I was called to sub a Saturday morning Jazzercise class for Kathy Batson in the gym at Lincoln High School. The room was packed with 75ish friendly neighbors ready to dance. Okay, maybe then I was wearing a two piece leotard that looked like underpants over my leggings, and a bra top. My big hair was probably wrapped up in a scrunchy on top of my head. We were probably flipping 45s and then popping in a single cassette tape …perhaps Ballroom Blitz by Tia Carrera? Or maybe it was Everlasting Love by Gloria Estafan?
Well Kathy had to move out of Lincoln HS and took her classes to Queen Anne and currently Sonney Newman’s in Greenwood. But I am here to bring it back to Wallingford, at Om Culture (2210 N Pacific St.)
What has changed? Well, I won’t be wearing a scrunchy. My set is conveniently and oh so efficiently stored on my ipod. There’s no hopping over my microphone cord as we have gone wireless! And today you’ll be dancing to Beyonce, Weezer, La Roux, Shakira and Adele. We still do about 30 minutes of dancing followed by 20 minutes of awesome strength training. The entire class will work on improving your strength and toning your core as well as the rest of your body. Bring weights, a water bottle, and a mat.
You can try today’s Jazzercise at a FREE Open House, Saturday, Oct 8 at 9:00am. Starting Oct 4, classes will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30pm and Saturday morning at 9:00am. For more information call Lori Hollow 206-632-3079 or check out class schedules at www.jazzercise.com.
Jazzercise has been around so long, we have a hard time leaving this image (the photo) behind. Please come and check out our current image, or go to http://www.jazzercise.com to get a sneak peek.
