Back in July, we put out a call to artists for an interesting art installation called “Species on the Verge & Other Works w/POV” at Wallingford Center. If you hadn’t seen it during the Art Walk, now’s your chance to stop by the Kerf International Gallery (located inside Wallingford Center) and see the installation through Sept 23rd. Debra Barnes, the creative director for the project wrote to tell us that “The artists are terrific and the universe is smiling.”
Hours are 3-8 Tuesday -Fri and Sat 12-6 / Sun 12-5 (Sept 1-Sept 23)
Debra also added:
This visual arts show ‘Species on the Verge & Other works w/POV’ is about the process of co-operative resource sharing and building connections for future events as well as the current physical show which is eclectic and unique.
I sent out a call for local artists with a theme of sustainability, any aspect -environment and ecosystem balance, economic diversity, social justice and creative, cultural diversity, Linking to the “Buy Local” idea I wanted to open the discourse to support local talent. (Wallyhood was part of that action, rent upset and new space caused some delays, but all is good now!)
The first 7 who showed up were in. That the 7 were women was by chance as was the rather remarkable way this show flows together. From a 94 year old glass artist, a milliner, a painter and a printmaker who both sell Real Change, a painter of large wooden cut outs and a painter of sumi cats, a 3d artist who is inspired by the Inuit myths to my work which utilizes recyCouture gowns in story installations.
This is an experimental work in social cooperation and entrepreneurialism. Working towards a common goal (the show) we are also working towards a larger event planned for next summer.(city wide with writers, musicians, more)people are signing on, we are getting great comments and reviews.
Please drop by, we appreciate the feedback, encouragement, tips etc. Besides it is worth seeing, a stunner. This is street up at its (biased:-)) best! We are doing what others talk about, we are living the experiment.
