We’ve received some tips today from a few of our readers, including a great deal at Fainting Goat Gelato. While you’re there, you can pop in to Sock Monster to donate gently used shoes; but a note to all–please mind your purses and bags when out and about since there seems to be a purse snatcher close by. Here’s the lowdown:
Scout Mob is offering a coupon for 50% off at Fainting Goat Gelato. The deal is available for four more days and once you get it, the coupon expires on 11/1/2011. Now, unlike most sites offering deals, Scout Mob doesn’t make you pay in advance. The coupon is free, and once you sign up, you can send the coupon directly to your phone.
Barb Burill tells us that Sock Monster now has a bin to collect gently used shoes for Redeeming Soles, a nonprofit organization that provides footwear to the underprivileged and homeless living in Seattle. Redeeming Soles always needs gently used shoes of all kinds, from flip flops to boots, for men, women, and children. Scott Sowle, founder of Redeeming Soles, says that his organization currently has a huge need for children’s shoes in particular; and Molly at the Sock Monster also offered to donate new socks on a regular basis to Redeeming Soles. So bring in your shoes and maybe even buy some new socks from the Sale basket to donate.
Mary Sue wrote to tell us about an incident that happened last night around 42nd and Corliss. We haven’t seen or heard anything about what might’ve happened, so please leave us a comment if you did:
I saw about 10 or so police out my front window tonight around midnight looking for someone/something. They had flashlights and were walking up and down Corliss &42nd looking in side yards etc. I was tempted to open my door and ask them what was going on but was too freaked out (plus I was trying to calm my barking dog). Do you know what’s up? I can only assume someone was up to no good and was hiding from the police. Sure doesn’t make for a restful night thinking of bad guys lurking in my backyard!
Finally, Cindy wrote to tell us that someone snatched a purse from her business yesterday, right in the middle of the day, between 1:30 and 2:15. She added, “I just want to remind all with the warm weather comes smiles, open doors and windows……..and thieves!!!!!!”

Today the Seattle Times published an article about huge budget cuts for food banks in King County. If you want to read the article go to the Seattle Times website and type in Nicole Brodeur, the article is called “For some kids, cuts at nonprofit mean fewer meals.” Anyway, the article got my little sister and I thinking, and decided with some friends to organize a food drive. We put up posters around the neighborhood and gave out over 100 fliers. So we challenge the other kids of Wallingford to organize things like food drives to help those less fortunate.
oops…
As for the Corliss “issue” the Seattle PD 911 logs should 2 things of interest:
At 12:32 AM they received a call from someone in the 2300 block of N42nd reporting a suspicious person and then right after that at 12:38 they received another one from “45th and Sunnyside”. Since it is listed as an intersection that typically indicates it was made from a mobile phone.
So, all of this amounts to one or more “suspicious people” were being looked for at that time.
Thanks for the information, Karla.
Grace, I’d be willing to talk to you about the food drive. Please email me at [email protected]. Thanks!
