When Grace and her sister and mom read Nicole Brodeur’s piece in the Seattle Times this week, “For some kids, cuts at nonprofit mean fewer meals”, it spurred an idea: “The article got my sister and I thinking, and decided with some friends to organize a food drive,” Grace wrote to me in an email. “We put up posters around the neighborhood and gave out over 100 flyers. We want everyone to participate in this food drive.”
Between now and next 12:00pm Wednesday, August 10, all of Wallingford is invited to participate in this food drive. Some people in the neighborhood may have already received flyers on their front doorstep on Thursday or Friday. If so, Grace and her sister, along with a few of their friends, will be coming back around to those homes on Wednesday, August 10 at 10:30am to pick up any labeled bags of non-perishable food items left on doorsteps. Grace and her pals will then donate the food to local food banks, including FamilyWorks.
If you didn’t receive the food drive flyer, there are three potential drop-off points in the neighborhood:
3727 Burke Ave N
3634 Woodlawn Ave N
3814 Densmore Ave N
Grace, an Ingraham High School student, also challenges other kids and families in the neighborhood to organize food drives routinely to help those less fortunate. Every little bit helps.
I didn’t receive a flyer, but will be happy to drop off some food. Thanks Wallingford!
Thank you for taking action to relieve hunger – our FamilyWorks Food Bank customers appreciate your generosity!
