Just got off the phone with Jai and it’s official! Stella is back! Someone dropped her off at the Ballard Animal Hospital and now she’s back at the store safe and sound!
OMG! I am SO excited. I am so, so happy to see Stella AND Max the cat both reunited with their families. I hope, in some way, our wonderful Wallyhood and amazing neighbors helped out! This makes me so happy I can’t even stand it. If it had been my pet, I would have been humbled at the response given by our wonderful community here!
I am headed out and about shortly and will take down any posters of Stella or Max I see up to help with the cleanup.
WALLYHOOD is the greatest bunch of neighbors anyone could ever have. honestly, folks, i am so grateful that i still live in wallyworld, what a great fourth this will be! how kind, how helpful, how encouraging y’al have been. i speak for jai, the whole damn crew at the dg, and of course, tiny dancer, miss stella. love to al…..
I have been having very difficult conversations with my two kids about this topic for the last three days. Now I have the opportunity not only to share a conversation about “why bad things happen to an innocent little dog”, but also to explain “how a community working together can make things right.”
I just stopped in at the Durn Good. Both “the morning guy” and Jai were there, as was Stella. I didn’t get to see her, though. Maybe she was napping, or perhaps they’re being protective (I would be!). Regardless, the morning guy has a message for Wallyhood: thank you thank you thank you!
They were so impressed with everyone’s concerns and the spirit of community that may just be responsible for Stella’s return. Jai told me she was dropped off at the Ballard Veterinary Hospital wearing a new harness, so someone probably meant to keep her.
And the morning guy (that’s how he logs on here), he was so impressed with how people shared their skills to help– like pulling the image of the truck off the surveillance video, and Margaret’s posting the story that started it all. Thanks to all! As the morning guy summed up, “Tears of joy!”
I’m not gonna speculate on the motives of the woman who returned Stella, unless I hear otherwise I assume she’s probably a good person who did not have ulterior motives. I want to tell her thank you for dropping Stella off!
Pat’s comment is very wise. We really don’t know. It is possible that she was well intentioned. And it is nice way to Mike to continue to talk with his two kids.
I am a Durn Good regular (usually twice a day…. AM coffee and PM Ice Cream) and I can’t explain how happy I was to hear Stella was back at home safe (I actually heard from my wife who was in Long Beach, CA at the time… gotta love the power of the Internet!).
Anyway….. congrats to Jai, the morning guy, the new guy, and the Wallingford community who all…. ROCK!
I too am very Happy Stella is back! I stopped in the other day to tell her owner how very sorry I was for his loss. He almost cried, as did I, when he said “I just hope someone loves her as much as I do”. Then he went on to say “maybe he should have been more careful of Stella and had her tied up. She is home safe and sound! It’s true, all of Wallingford was in shock!. Yea Yea Yea!
ID, ID, ID! So important! Collars AND microchipping. Well intentioned people don’t know if the animal is in need of help or just wandering and out for a sniff.
Glad to hear this ended with a reunion, so often the animal ends up in the shelter and their people can’t find them.
Yomo I think Stella will be getting secret service protection from now on. As Jason said she is the mayor of 40th and Wallingford! A lesson was had by all.
I am so happy! Stella and daddy are back together! Best possible outcome. Best possible outcome!!!
Yay!
I’m glad. Not sure how Ballard Animal Hospital would like you referring to them as jail though.
What a grand neighborhood effort this was everybody! Good work!

Sorry. You try posting from your phone sometime! I’ll fix it.;-)
Coolness! If only Stella could talk….
I was thinking about interviewing her
Great news! I don’t know Stella but I’m so happy for the outcome. Thanks Wallyhood.
Woo hoo!!! I’m so happy to hear it, and thanks so much to the Wallyhood reporting team for keeping us up-to-the-minute!
