Toby at Woodland Park Cooperative Preschool sent us the following announcement about their recent move from Phinney Ridge to Fremont:
We’re happy to announce that our preschool has found a new home at the Fremont Baptist Church. For now, we’re still going by the name Woodland Park Cooperative Preschool.
We are part of a network of independent cooperative preschools run through North Seattle Community College, serving children ages 2-5. (Wallingford Cooperative Preschool on Keystone is also a part of the NSCC co-op system.) Although our preschool is new to the neighborhood, you may already know our teacher Tom Hobson – former president of the Fremont Arts Council and Solstice Parade “Superhugger.”
The preschool is fully enrolled for the coming school year, but there will be openings for the 2012-13 school year. (It will be here sooner than you think!) Tours begin in February, 2012. Check http://coops.northseattle.edu/coopbasics/enrollment.html for registration information. You can learn more about how a cooperative preschool works here and read about Teacher Tom’s philosophy and adventures.
We’re very excited to be a part of this community.
Toby explains that when the school’s previous landlord (a small church) in Phinney Ridge would not agree to renew their lease for more than one year, “the folks at Fremont Baptist Church invited us to be a part of their community. It was such a beautiful space, so well-suited to accommodate our new outdoor curriculum and our lively bunch of preschoolers. The location was appealing, too – it’s wonderful to be just a short walk from the Troll and other popular field trip destinations like the Theo Chocolate Factory and the public library. Our parent community voted to relocate and we’ve been very happy about the decision.”
Welcome to the neighborhood! (well, a few blocks from the ‘hood!)
