Good morning folks and happy Solstice Parade day! Throw on your tie-dye, your clown costume or your leather bustier, whatever your pleasure, and get yourself on down to Fremont for the parade. Parade officially begins at noon!
We noted with interest that, unlike past years, in which the painted cyclists were treated with, depending on the year, annoyance, incarceration, tolerance, and amusement, they’ve now got an official spot in the program: the Fremont Arts Council web site has them on the program at 11:45 am, 15 minutes before the rest of the parade begins.
Now, if you are thinking about getting down there early to stake out a spot along the parade route to make sure you have a good view, good luck to you. Whatever spot you get, you’ve got nothing on Dan McComb and Lisa Cooper. Earlier this week, they successfully crested their goal of $13,500 on Kickstarter to fund their film Beyond Naked, a documentary on the naked cyclists of Fremont. And you want to talk good view: their dough will allow them to fly a remote-controlled helicopter over the parade to film the cyclists from above.
Dan, a retired smoke-jumper, photojournalist, and co-founder of the business networking site Biznik, possesses that unique form of blindness that prevents him from seeing when things are impossible, along with the relentless energy, intelligence and style to turn that into an asset.
So, if you see the ‘copter buzzing, wave hi and show him yer paints!
…and Lisa is pretty amazing too.
