If you’ve traveled on Aurora Avenue North lately, you might have noticed a radar speed sign that’s posted at N. 48th St. facing southbound traffic. According to the SDOT Blog, in the next couple of weeks, there will be another one installed on the northbound side near N. 39th St. The signs are part of the Aurora Traffic Safety Project we told you about back in April, when SPD and WA State Patrol nabbed hundreds of traffic violators on Aurora in a single day. The SDOT Blog also notes:
…And if drivers are still inclined to speed after passing these new signs, SPD is likely right around the corner. Increased enforcement is a big part of the Aurora Traffic Safety Project and the Seattle Police Department has issued more than 10,000 citations on Aurora since the start of this project in 2009.
And if you’re still inclined to speed, think twice! Not so much southbound, but the cops are out there in force northbound almost every day and will be stopping you if you’re going over 40!
Just past the Aurora tunnel going Northbound is where I made my contribution to the city coffers. It’s easy to emerge from the tunnel going over 40 mph, especially when traffic is light and you’ve been travelling 50 mph along the viaduct.
