The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that the Seattle Chamber of Commerce will work to raise the remaining $90,000 needed to put on One Reel’s Family Fourth at Lake Union this year.
According to PSBJ’s Staff Writer, Clay Holtzman,
The Seattle Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the show’s nonprofit organizer One Reel to help raise the campaign’s final $90,000. The Seattle Chamber today emailed an appeal to members and supporters asking for donations. The Chamber has scheduled an event for April 25 to cap-off the drive, or to celebrate its victory if the goal is hit by then.

We HAVE to have fireworks on the 4th! It’s pretty easy to chip in a small amount through the Chamber’s website. Last year, I made it a mission to thank all the businesses who bailed out the fireworks, and some of them were so small they didn’t even have a presence on the web. Almost all of the ones I was able to contact were beyond happy to be thanked.
p.s. Your donation through the Chamber goes directly to One Reel and is tax-deductible.
i’ve gotta comment on this issue. as chamber pres, i encouraged businesses to stay open for the 4th, esp if a food/drink biz, or a fun shop like ours. we always thought it worth being open, and then we also already had a parking space to go see the show (my favorite 4th location of all time).
a few years ago i organized the porta potty sponsorships in case over 50,000 showed up, as the police were afraid of – and then due to the publicity of these fears the park didn’t have to be closed. i was one who was leery of it all that time; the police met with us community leaders and seemed ready to panic.
then when Chase decided to not be supportive of the community as WaMu had before, against all logic, many of us citizens helped save the fireworks last year by donating relatively small amts, and helping promote it.
but i am very opposed now to One Reel taking the position that they can just reach out to the community again like this. that should’ve been a one-time thing, while they had more time to find bigger sponsors. don’t tell me that there’s no other big companies or individuals who can part with a few more bucks.
when the state, counties, cities are cutting so very many important services, like for seniors, it is absolutely appalling to me that we the people are expected to provide most or all of the $ for something like this. i LOVE fireworks, and this is all we have now for seattle. but those asked to donate should be able to donate to the necessaries so that for instance, teachers and parents don’t have to pay themselves for art supplies, etc.
i’m curious what others think!

start calling them.
Seems like there could be something more beneficial to the community that we could spend 90K on.
