We just received the following email from Jon DeLeeuw from Not a Number:
Somebody tried to break into the following businesses (that we know of) on Wed. night approx 3AM:
Fainting Goat,
Not A Number/Sock Monster
Teahouse Kuan Yin (not sure on this, damage seemed slight)
Joule
Rusty PelicanThe alarm at Joule went off at 3:30AM, and obviously scared them off as they left their crowbar and hammer by Joules back door.
They used a brute force method, basically ripping apart the doors/frames . As far as we know they did not get into any of these businesses. We suspect that they probably tried Harold’s and Domo, but have not been able to confirm as the extent of the attempted burglaries was not discovered until after they had both closed for the evening. The neighbor behind us did not hear anything. We are currently waiting for the police.
I also read on Twitter that Molly Moon’s was broken into as well, though I haven’t heard word yet officially.
Oh, for crying out loud – more *burglaries* called “robberies”!
Are you guy’s doin’ this just to piss me off? 😉
/rob
Yes! 🙂
Burglars are a subset of the general set Robbers, just as Trees are a subset of the set Forest.
It’s a sad reflection of our education system that many can’t see the forest for the trees, or the burglars for the robbers.
Colloquially, I agree Catch, however legally, and by definition Rob is right. Robbery is taking something by force, or the threat of force in the presence of the victim. Burglary is unlawful entry of a structure for the purpose of theft.
