We just received word of two crimes that happened in the neighborhood today. The first is a stolen car:
I don’t know if you guys could help me out at all, but my car was stolen today from right outside my house! My roommate got home at 2:30 and said she saw it there, but when we left the house at 4:00 it was missing. I called the cops so I know it wasn’t towed. It was parked along Keystone PL N next to the intersection at N 50th St.
It’s a Honda Civic LX, 1992, a purpleish-gray color with maroon interior. Really scratched up hubcaps. There is a small, circular chip in the windshield on the driver’s side. The plate number is 215-ZVM.
If you know anything at all please contact 206-321-2535
Thanks!
This burglary took place some time earlier today:
My wife and kids came home today at 2:00PM to find our front window kicked in and our home robbed. Our front porch and window are easily visible from Greenlake Way and 48th Street. Out of our 7 closest neighbors, 6 were home all day. This person had no problem breaking into a house that they could not see into in broad daylight with a neighborhood full of neighbors. The window was a new double paned window, nothing flimsy. Of course it is the sentimental items that are so upsetting, wedding rings(forgot to put them on) and family heirlooms. They got some technology items too. We are over in “Wallingford West” – across Green Lake Way.
The Police were nice, but did nothing. They would not even consider trying to get fingerprints. They simply wrote down a few of the bigger items taken and left us with a sheet to fill out and send back in to them. Homeowners insurance was not helpful either, we have a 1% of the home’s value for a deductible and you have to have a “rider” policy for any piece of jewelry over $1500. (This would have been good to know more about prior to being robbed). Folks may want to check in with their insurance providers about their specific coverage.
Beware neighbors, there seems to be a crime spree in the neighborhood.
RE: Stolen Honda
I park at that intersection all the time. I was even out there this afternoon, but around 2. Would you happen to have parked too close to the stop sign? I know in the past they have towed people from there. Maybe check with Lincoln Towing? I guess I would like to think it wasn’t really stolen since I park there all the time. If it was stolen, I hope it turns up soon.
My car was stolen last month from our driveway, near Gas Works.
It was recovered a couple weeks ago, still trying to get the stench of smoke out…
unfortunately, those 90’s Hondas are easy to steal. our 96 accord was stolen a couple of years ago. i was told there are only 4 or 5 key combinations and thieves walk around with a full set in their pocket. If they see a car and want it, it takes just few seconds to try their set and take off. Cops found our accord about 4 months later, but it belonged to the insurance company by then. As goofy as they look, get a Club. it’s a cheap, but effective layer of security. If I had one, i would still have my accord. you have my sympathies.
When I lived in Crown Hill, my roommate’s 90s Accord got stolen from in front of our house. It was recovered weeks later after it had been crashed, seats and other parts removed, and my roommate’s research documents taken.
To the person who experienced the house burglary:
I am impressed that at your time of loss, you took time out to inform others, so that they might not suffer the same kinds of losses that you did! I am also impressed with the fact that although many people could have helped you and apparently did not, you still said that they were nice, you still did not disparage their characters. These are not easy things to do when you are suffering and when you are vulnerable.
Thank you for your kind heart and your even temper and I hope that you and your family will find whatever support will help you to recover from this experience! I am glad to be in this world with people like you!
My neighbors car was broken into 2 time sin our apartment parking lot.. apparently fo rpurpose of stealing electronic parts.
She now has a car alarm and a club on her car.
We have had several ‘rifflings’ here.
I hesitate to say much as my last post about patrolling or having more neighborhood meetings was commented on by the editor as my blaming the victim.
i remove my email from subscribing.
I do not think suggesting that the neighbors get more organized and patrol or ask for more patrols or provide mor committees which do watch activities is blaming the victim.
However I am not the editor. I am irritated.
HEY! Great news! They found my car… parked 8 blocks away. Next to a church of all places. The only things missing are my crappy 4th gen ipod and… the floor mat on the driver’s side?? They didn’t even bother to run the tank dry… I had just filled it and it’s still completely full. Why go through all the trouble just to drive two minutes, take an old ipod, and remove a floor mat?! I will never understand. But that’s alright… I have a car again!!! Woooo!!
“unfortunately, those 90′s Hondas are easy to steal. our 96 accord was stolen a couple of years ago.”
Good to know as I’ve been looking at getting a small car, with Civics a prime candidate. Anyone know when (or if) they switched to electronic keys?
@TS:
Glad your car turned up intact. Out of curiosity, was it broken into? Or was it unlocked when it was taken? Just curious if it was just a joyride or what may have happened.
