Two notes from the blotter. Jeff Garfield at Bedrooms and More dropped us a frustrated note about graffiti that had appeared on his vans and building last Saturday, Feb 25th:
Our brand new truck parked in the locked and gated lot by our store was painted. The parking garage under Wine World was also hit along with others places. We need the community’s help in apprehending the person(s) responsible for tagging our truck which was parked at the the vacant lot on the Northwest corner of 4th Avenue N.E. and N.E. 45th Street.
Bedrooms & More is offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the tagger. If you can post this maybe we can put a stop to this.
To repeat, that’s a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the tagger. We’re not posting photos of the tagging here on the main blog (to avoid encouraging the miscreant), but if you want to take a look, follow these links: graffiti photo 1 and graffiti photo 2.
In other crime news, Kristi wrote:
We live on Latona (between 40th and 41st) and have had some unusual activity with our mail lately. I had two packages go missing about a month ago and never turned up- delivery guy said he left it on the porch. And then I got a call from my bank yesterday- someone had taken a check (that I just wrote and put out on Friday- so I can only assume it was removed from the mailbox) and washed it to remove some of the information. Then changed the amount and made it out to himself and tried to cash it. When the bank told him they had to call me to verify- he took off.
Just want neighbors to be aware of anyone milling around their mailboxes/porches in the morning-afternoon hours. I will probably not be mailing anything out or receiving anything from this point on, at the house.
One of the valuable things about getting to know your neighbors is that you know what’s usual and what’s unusual around your neighborhood. Knowing what’s unusual can help keep trouble away. Get out, meet your neighbors, help keep an eye out for one another, won’t ya?

On Woodlawn near Lincoln we’ve had on going activity. Constant tagging–lots on the school itself, and cars. A few months ago my neighbor had mail stolen just like Kristi–same check scenario. Earlier week I had the antenna broken off my car. A couple years ago someone kicked in my windshield. I often forget I live in Wallingford. I can’t believe all the vandalism that goes on.
Sorry I can’t help on the who. However, some years ago someone tagged my car parked in my drive way. Police came and recommeded I use gasoline to rub it off. I was not sure but tried a bit from my lawnmower and it took the spray paint right off without damaging the cars regular paint. Then a good wash with soap and water. Obviously, use caution if you try this.
Two years ago we had checks stolen out of the mailbox and washed clean to attempt to redeposit. No more checks in the outgoing mail for us. That was at 44th-45th and Latona.
We live opn 1st NE between 45th-46th, and we have a locking mailbox. All mail is sent out and packages are recieved at the office. I’ve never had mail stolen, but I figure prudence is better than regret.
A few month ago I saw two men repeatedly walking by my neighbors porch, which had a package on it. When one of them started walking up the steps I came out of my front door to ask him what he was doing. They both ran. I live on Latona and 42nd.
I also noticed yesterday the former 7-11 next to the post office is now covered in graffiti too.
My husband recently stopped a guy in the act of tagging our neighbor’s garage door (on the Fremont side of Stone Way). Scraggly young guy with a backpack and a small pug. Called the cops a bit later, but they were uninterested in taking down any information.
Can I just rant that I am so sick of all this graffiti, tagging, spray painting? My building gets tagged regularly, gets repainted, gets retagged…endless cycle. I have nothing constructive to add…just SICK of looking at this crap in my neighborhood.
Still trying to post a single comment, this is test #3
What is with all the tagging?!?
Our block around midvale and most of the fences on 45th were hit with the tag “spaces” and then another tagger’s tag. We’re in the middle of a turf war…
Its on our fence in 4 foot tall letters…
On the siding of a neighbors house and
on the comcast electrical boxes…
You know its getting bad when they’re tagging right on the siding of peoples HOMES… and these are nice homes!!!

I called my bank when my HMO billed me for a payment already sent in. The bank said we live close to I-5 which offers a quick getaway for thieves. It was recommended that i post $$ payments in a corner USPS mailbox. At that time some thieves even tried to haul away the corner mailboxes on N 55th/ N 56th. These are now bolted to the sidewalk.
I was so sad to see our former 7-11 (47th & Stone Way) covered with graffiti. Not sure how I missed it until today, except maybe it was the first time I’ve come home in daylight since the building got tagged. I reported it to the City, and you can, too, at
