Finally, a little bit of good news from the Seattle Police Department with regard to a car prowl this morning, around 3:45 am. According to the SPD Blotter:
On March 15th, at approximately 3:45 AM, North Precinct officers responded to a call from a citizen stating there was a car prowl in progress in the 4200 Block of 2nd Avenue NE. The caller stated that it appeared the suspect vehicle was in the middle of the street and that three individuals were removing items from a parked car. Officers arrived in the area and observed the suspect vehicle back into a parked car and then start driving toward them. Fortunately, the car apparently stalled. Two of the occupants were taken into custody, but the third suspect fled from the car. Containment was quickly set up and a K-9 was brought in. The third suspect was located by the K-9 hiding underneath a van nearby and was also taken into custody. It appeared that at least two cars had been prowled. It also became evident that the suspect car contained additional stolen items in it, so it was impounded pending a search warrant. The three suspects were positively identified by witnesses. The three suspects, two males, ages 27 and 28, and a female, 27, were later booked into the King County Jail for vehicle prowling and theft. The driver was also driving on a suspended license and charged with hit and run, and the suspect who ran had an outstanding warrant.
Hmmm. Wonder if they were in a black SUV.
Yep, police searching our street & yards with lights, K-9 and shotgun made for an early start to this day, but this is very good news for our area with dramatically increased crime of late. many thanks to the early-riser(s) who saw and reported them, the police officers who arrested them and to Margaret for filling us in on the story!
(A newer-model sedan or coupe was towed from 43rd St and 2nd Ave around 4AM.)
I saw that action out the window and put our local local Block Watch to work by sending two e-mails, one of which got a response from someone who could see the action more clearly. The reach could have been extended if it didn’t seem to be getting resolved, which it was.
In days of yore in East Wallyford after all our car radio, tape players (!) had been stolen we had an informal middle-of-the-night watch so upstairs lights were on in at least one house with an awake person keeping an eye on the street every night (parents of infants, older people getting up to pee and staying up when it was their night, etc.). Even a light on in an uninhabited attic seemed to give the illusion of someone up there paying attention. It worked OR the perps went back to jail for something else.
The good news is that car prowlers, especially professionals like these guys, are prolific. The fact that these clowns have been picked up should mean a dramatic reduction in activity. Maybe not in our neighborhood but you can bet these guys were doing dozens of prowls per session.
It’s about time someone got caught for car theft in East Wallingford!
The case # for this crime is 11-84938
If your car got robbed last night, you can call the Burglary and Theft division in a couple of days after they inventory what these thieves had when they got busted. They can be reached at 206-684-5735.
According to the North Precinct…”they were very busy last night” and apparently had a lot of loot in their car.
Yay!!!
Great news, these guys were caught! One of our cars was car prowled on Valentine’s day eve and the same night our station wagon was stolen. Thankfully the station wagon was recovered 2 weeks later on aurora – unfortunately it was full of stolen goods and loads of drug paraphernalia….
Good news that these guys were arrested. 2 years ago my dog went crazy in the middle of the night and when my husband went to investigate, he saw that there were some kids trying to open car doors and peering into car windows. He did see them actually break into a car down the street and ended up calling the police. The police took a while to respond to the call, but eventually we were contacted back with the request to ID the juveniles they had picked up in association with the car theft. There were 2 males and 1 female. Over time, we learned that only 1 of the males were prosecuted. I would be interested in knowing if this was the same group.
