Last year, people all over the Pacific Northwest donated their time and money so Seattle could enjoy the Family 4th at Lake Union one last time. But then, it doesn’t have to be the last time. One Reel is committed to making sure the event happens every year. They just need our help to pull it off.
But we haven’t guaranteed this year’s 2011 celebratiaganza. Not yet. Donations are still essential to making the 2011 Family 4th at Lake Union possible. While almost 70 percent of the event budget has been secured, for the show to go on, another $162,000 needs to be raised by March 1st.
As One Reel puts it, “Opportunities to be a part of a grassroots, community-fueled triumph don’t happen every day. But they can happen once a year.”
To ensure this longstanding Seattle tradition continues, visit http://family4th.org and make a donation by March 1st.
You can also spread the word by downloading Family 4th widgets for your website here: http://family4th.org/widgets.php.
Volunteer opportunities are available, too: http://family4th.org/contact.php#volunteer.
March 1st. I said that already, right?
Why not have block parties on the 4th instead of fireworks? Take the huge amount of money usually spent on fireworks and create a fund for…(anything addressing real human needs, really) homeless folks to get into an apartment or families facing foreclosure.
While we’re at it, we should stop drinking beer and going to the movies and put the money saved to a good cause. Let’s also discontinue the hydroplane races, blue angels, torchlight parade, etc. Think of all the money we could spend on “worthwhile” causes instead!
While we were living abroad, one of the things we missed most was the Family 4th fireworks. We live 3 blocks from Gasworks, and the 4th of July is the most neighborly day of the year — because of the fireworks! We’ve had bands play in our front yard, passed out drinks to strangers, and raised funds for peace-keeping charities from passer’s by.
We’ll happily donated to keep this community-building event alive.
I wonder if the organizers have considered doing a Kickstarter project? Hmmm…
Thanks for letting us know about the fundraising deadline

I agree with some of these comments. $500,000. could go to a better cause. I think having a community picnic with music- games and art would be fun. Give everyone a sparkler and call it a day! Take donations and give to local charities……..hmmmm
