Got something to share with your neighbors? Check out the forums section of Wallyhood for announcements, referrals, and answers to various questions (or questions that need answers!) Here are the highlights from this past week:
- There’s been a lot of discussion about the empty lot near 45th and 5th. jldimond reports that there’s “a constant stream of druggies hiding and fighting in the unchecked growth” and wonders who owns the lot and what can be done to make the adjacent Metro bus stop safer.
- Reader susan_wills shared some bad news in her post, my car prowled, contents ripped off, parts of car missing & gas siphoned. After having everything taken from her car at Latona Ave NE and N 59th Street, she is certain that if her steering wheel hadn’t been locked, the car would have been missing too. Report any suspicious activity and make sure to lock up!
- Wedding bells are ringing for one of our readers. BT asks for a Wedding Location in Wallingford? Any Suggestions?
- Need your gutters cleaned? After all the downpours, wind, and the massive amounts of leaves strewn about Gutter Cleaning is a must, and reader josh.m.vorndran is offering his assistance.
- Need names of Reasonably Priced Local Veterinarians? Or perhaps you know of one and can add your recommendation.
For the party looking for a wedding site. My daughter was married 25 years ago. We held a summer wedding @ the Home of the Good Shepherd in the garden. The wedding ceremony was held in the Gazebo, with chairs set around. We served the food in the part that was covered. Was a lovely day and a beautiful weeding.
The only problem was the city hadn’t mowed the lawn so my husband mowed it with a push mower, was work! And the nice thing is they are still happily married!
OmCulture at 35th and Bagley is a beautiful place to host both wedding and reception. It will hold up to 200. What is the date of the wedding?
Concerning the empty lot situation, I see this as a great chance to create a local sustainable solution without bothering the utterly broke city that has proven it’s concern already ( this has been an ongoing problem with little results), one can see both side of the I-5 bridge completely covered in litter!
Lets host a benefit fund raiser see what we might be able to come up with to do a community effort to clean it up, and perhaps install a few solar powered spot lights maybe even get a few yards of soil and do some plantings to beautify the entrance into WallyHood.
I see this as a great chance for this situation to unify the followers of this cool blog and have a walk and talk/ meet and greet. I strongly believe that if we all get together and work as a unified force it would not only show the homeless that we are watching and are concerned with the space and our Hood, but also might open up communication to those that are disrespecting our Hood ( a lot more can come from such a community effort than will ever evolve from the city and their over-worked staff that is being dissected every day with budget costs ).
LETS MAKE THIS PROJECT SOMETHING WE ALL OVERCOME WITH SIMPLE UNITY AND SOME HARD WORK.
I know that we can get a $250 grant as a community effort and they will take all the trash and give us bark FOR FREE!
Come on WallyHood lets not be like all the rest, let us be more progressive and creative!!!
What a great idea Scott!!!!!!
I also think this is a good idea. I will do what I can to help.
My son just got laid off from his window washing job, so If he isn’t out looking for work, I will try to get him involved, too.
In the meantime, if anyone needs help with window washing…his email is name is Jon, email… [email protected],
A 3 wheel baby stroller was abandoned near Diva on Stone way- It seems to be in great shape-(I’m no expert) I’ll keep it for a while before donating it .
We hired Josh to clean our gutters based on this posting. It was not a great experience. His first estimate was way too high–the equivalent of $160 an hour by my estimate of how long it will take (for manual labor which typically pays no more than $40 an hour). He immediately dropped his price, but then he showed up 40 minutes late with no call or email to let me know he’d be late. He and his “coworker” showed up eating sandwiches on our porch while they rang our bell. He’s doing the work now–we’ll see how it goes….
Josh and his coworker did a good job in the end. They threw the gutter contents right into our yard waste can, borrowed a hose to make sure the gutters were running freely, and seemed to be careful with the ladder so they didn’t scrape the house. Despite them showing up so late, I’d hire them again.
