Sutra Yoga and Restaurant (1605 N. 45th St.) is offering an In-city Detox Retreat. Spaces are still available as of this publishing. $165 all inclusive. See their website for full details. This weekend-long retreat includes yoga, meditation, and nutrition classes plus food tastings on Sunday and a light breakfast on Saturday. 5pm – 7pm: City Cellars Fine Wines (1710 N. 45th St.) This week’s wine tasting: Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. Tastings include a flight of up to 3 wines for $3-5.
7:00 – 9:30pm: Friday Night at the Meaningful Movies (5019 Keystone Pl. N.) This week’s film is “What’s the Economy For, Anyway?” From the website: Filmmaker John de Graaf and ecological economist Dave Batker presents a humorous, edgy, factual, timely and highly-visual monologue about the American economy today, challenging the ways we measure economic success–especially the Gross Domestic Product–and offering an answer to the question: What’s the Economy for, Anyway? After the film, Laura Musikanski, Executive Director of Sustainable Seattle will lead a community discussion about a meaningful framing of our economy, and a presentation on the recently released Happiness Survey.
8pm: Is that Jazz? continues at the Good Shepherd Chapel Performance Space (4649 Sunnyside Ave. N, 4th floor). AMY DENIO + LUCIO MENEGONE. Also, DOUGLAS DETRICK’S ANYWHEN ENSEMBLE WITH GUEST WAYNE HORVITZ. The festival is all ages with a suggested donation of $15 per person (but contact [email protected] if you’re interested in volunteering one night to attend free another).
Saturday, Jan 29th
9am – 11am: Hamilton International Middle School (1610 N. 41st St.) Pancake Breakfast & Raffle Drawing, in the Hamilton School Commons. Invite your friends and neighbors for pancakes, coffee, fresh fruit and whipped cream. Breakfast tickets are $5. Raffle tickets are $5. Funds are raised by the PTSA to ensure every 6th grader gets to go to the Olympic Park Institute for a science field trip.
