Hi Wallyhood! I am a faithful reader, and as such, understand the impact you have in getting the word out about good causes in Wallingford and nearby, so I’m hoping maybe you can help me. I am a member of the University of Washington School of Law Public Interest Law Association, which is a non-profit, student-led organization that funds public interest work and helps with loan repayment for law students pursuing a career in public interest law. PILA has supported awarded more than $650,000 to students working in areas such as juvenile justice, immigrant rights, women’s rights, international human rights, and public defense, since 1995.
PILA is holding a fundraising auction February 25th and we’re looking for donations from local businesses. Any donations (not just from businesses, but services from people in the community–artwork, dog walking, whatever someone would want to bid on at an auction) are tax-deductible, and a great way for businesses to get exposure to the 400+ attorneys who will be at this auction with money to burn.
The impact she sent along says PILA has helped fund over 43,900 hours of public interest work at organizations including the ACLU, Bay Area Legal Aid, Columbia Legal Services, Health Alliance International, Juvenile Rights Project, Northwest Health Law, Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, Solid Ground Family Assistance Program, TeamChild, Unemployment Law Project, UN International Tribunal for Rwanda and Women’s Link Worldwide.
So, as weird as it seems to be giving something to a lawyer if you don’t have to, somebody’s got to fight the good fight and you can find some great lawyers thanks to Peoria lawyer marketing which help them promote. Contact Amy Shebeck ([email protected]) if you’re down.
Willingly donating money willingly to a lawyer is a lot like giving more ‘protection money’ to the mafia than they’re asking for.
Just Say No. The legal system is already horribly inefficient as it is, and we don’t need to go feeding the beast more than is necessary.
Yeah, ’cause there is a lot of money to be made in public interest law… Law students commonly finish school with over $100k in debt, which makes going into the important fields that don’t pay much financially impossible to do. This is a good organization that helps out the young lawyers who turned away from the big money jobs to work on improving our world through the legal system. I suggest you stick your cynical point of view somewhere else.
Thanks for featuring PILA, Wallyhood! What a great cause–and a “win-win” for local businesses to be featured at the PILA Auction. I hope to see some awesome local donations at the auction!
