Reader Janine sent us the following note:
This calico cat has been living on our porch at 43rd and Woodlawn for most of the last two weeks. It’s desperate to come inside and be part of our family, but we are unable to accommodate it. The cat appears to be well fed, though we have never fed it. If this is your cat or if you know anything about it, we would appreciate hearing from you at 206 790 7360 or [email protected].
I might be able to care fo rit for a few days if no one steps up.
There have been posters up for a missing calico, but a lighter one I think.
Has anyone checked it for a microchip? Most vets will do that for free. There are two nearby on Stone Way who I believe will.
Yes, FreGirl is right. AND, it’s important to know microchips aren’t universal. So, depending what reader the vet has, they may, or may not, detect a chip even if there is one.
Also, please look on Craig’s List for a missing pet ad and on websites such as PetFinder. Should also alert the Seattle Animal Shelter in the event the humans have reported their kitty missing.
Thank you all for your useful postings. We will have the cat checked for a microchip. We did check with the people with the lighter calico, but unfortunately, this is not their cat. The cat appears to be well fed, so we wonder if it has a home somewhere nearby but is unhappy there for some reason. We cannot keep it despite how sympathetic we feel toward it.
Quick note on collars: We went out looking at Christmas lights Christmas Night, and encountered a very friendly, well-fed cat who had a serious issue with his paw. He was holding it up as if it were either broken or just really, really hurt. He did not have a collar, but was trying very hard to get into the house with all the christmas lights on Latona (40th block, I believe).
If he had a collar, we would have called his people right away to let them know he was injured. Otherwise, our option was to go knocking on doors late on Christmas night. (We didn’t. I feel badly that we didn’t.) We did talk to a few neighbors who happened to be out, but no one knew the cat.
He was black with white markings – classic tuxedo cat with beautiful mustache across face. I hope he’s okay.
I think the black and white one trying to get into Xmas house on Latona belongs to the house just south of Xmas house. A black and white one does indeed live there, and the households are related; Hopefully kitty got in, got attention s/he needed and is ok.
This looks like the cat who lives on on Woodlawn and 41st – friendly girl but does wander a bit
The cat in the photo (let’s call her Princess) is now at the Seattle Animal Shelter. Because she’s so sweet and cute, she will probably be adopted quickly, although she might spend some time in foster care before she is elibible for adoption. If any of you think she might have a real home, please inform her owners of her current location. She was on our back or front porch almost 24/7 for more than two weeks or so, with only brief forays to undisclosed locations.
