Christmas came to the Wallingford Boys and Girls Club (WBGC) a few days early, thanks to a generous donation from Microsoft. Yesterday, the club received an Xbox 360 with Kinect. The software company donated the console and two games to 4,000 Boys and Girls Club locations nationwide. As a special bonus, WBGC also received 13 additional Kinect games, courtesy of the Hotmail team, who shipped them using their new Active View feature. Club members were invited to come and try out the new console and games like Kinect Adventures! on Tuesday afternoon and there were lots of smiles.
The Xbox Kinect will be used at the Boys and Girls Club as a reward for doing homework and for good behavior. “We’re big on incentives,” said WGBC Executive Director Nita Smith, who explained the concept of kids earning “Club Bucks” for prizes.
WBGC Senior Director Adam Monda added that the console will be used during their Friday rotation for kids in K-5, and later Friday evenings as a part of teen night.
Thank you so much for coming to the event, Helen! It is wonderful to have the support of our neighbors, and it meant a lot to the club staff that you were there.
And thanks to Microsoft for the donation. 🙂
