Mark Woodward, the pastor at the Seattle First Church of the Nazarene wants y’all to know about their 7th Annual Harvest Dinner this coming Sunday, November 21st. There’s a service at 10:00 am and then dinner starts at 11:30 am.
Dinner at 11:30 am?
Well, we wondered the same thing. Mark explained “I guess we should have called it ‘Lunch’ – but dinner sounds so much more substantial.”
Alright, we’ll give it to you. So what’s the deal? Mark again:
The dinner and clothing distribution are not religious at all. We have several from the community that come and help distribute food and clothing… The meal is usually packed up and finished by 1 pm.
We prepare dishes just like at home- and folks get to choose what they would like to eat as they go through the line –We sit around round tables and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. We usually have leftovers that are distributed for folks to take home. We even have some entertainment during the meal.
We typically draw from the homeless community – but also have others come that [just want to join us for] Thanksgiving.
We are taking donations of all kinds – and they can be dropped off at Mosaic Community Coffee House – canned goods, clothing, coats etc. Also if anyone wanted to prepare food for Sunday – bring it by the church on Sunday morning between 9 am and 10:30. If you would like to help serve food or distribute clothing – show up at 11 am.
We do have a service of Thanksgiving preceding the meal at 10 am – but no one has to come and participate in the service to attend the meal or get some food or clothing. This year’s theme is Worship – we will have 5 congregations coming together to celebrate.
Thanks, Mark.
Mark Woodward is the pastor’s name.
And – the formal mid-day meal on Sunday was typically called dinner, at least in my Scandinavian family experience.
Thanks, Barb, name corrected
