Six years ago, a couple of sushi chefs, Takashi Ogasawara and Jennifer Douglass, decided to leave their day jobs at Wasabi Bistro in Belltown and open their own restaurant here in Wallingford. Since then Rain Modern Infusion Cuisine, as it’s officially known (and “Rain Sushi” as everyone we know calls it) has managed to carve out a hip, urban and creative niche amongst the many sushi restaurants Wallingford is blessed with (and we’re not just saying that because they sport a Wallyhood Roll on their menu).
This Saturday night, 11/6, they’ll be celebrating their anniversary with a little party featuring specials on sake, Ninkasi IPA and Get Wet Rolls, plus the musical stylings of Black Rain, as close as you’re going to get to a house band in a place that doesn’t have regular music: several of the band members live just above Rain and Takashi himself plays guitar.
Stop in starting around 10 pm for their musical stylings, some sushi, some drinks and just to say congratulations. Six years in the restaurant business is a big deal.
