The Christmas Ships are coming to Gas Works Park this Wednesday, December 1st. From Argosy’s web site:
The Argosy Christmas Ship™ festival is a holiday celebration that has been a Northwest tradition for 61 years. […]
Each night, through December 23rd, 2010 the Argosy Christmas Ship™ sails to different Puget Sound waterfront communities, over 45 in total. Choirs onboard sing 20-minute performances to these communities, all broadcast via state-of-the-art speaker system. […]
On shore, thousands of people gather around roaring bonfires anticipating the arrival of the Christmas Ship™. You can either join us on board the Christmas Ship™ or one of the Parade ships that follow, or join with friends and neighbors to gather together for your own caroling tradition. If you own your own boat, feel welcome to add lights to you vessel andjoin in the festival and help form the largest holiday floating parade in the world!
If you want to jump on one of the Argosy boats for the fun, it’ll run you $25/$12 adult/child, but you can also watch the show from Gas Works, where we’re told the Parks Dept sets up a bonfire to keep you warm. The choir is supposed to sing for Gas Works between 8:20 and 8:40 pm.
No promises that this will get you any singing, but it should get you some good views: that same night from 5:30 – 8:30 pm Ivar’s Salmon House is hosting Holiday Sparkler 2, “a night of bubbles, lights and holiday bliss. Take a sparkling wine and Champagne tour of the world with more than 20 varieties poured. Sample from an array of seasonally-inspired hors d’oeuvres by Chef Jason Bray.” RSVP at www.ivars.com or call 206-632-0767.
If you attend either event and take pictures or have a story to share, please send it to [email protected] so we can share with your neighbors

Wow. No need to go to Gas Works. I can hear the choir at 41st and Whitman. At first I thought my neighbor had their TV at full volume.
@stacey: I wondered what that sound was a little while ago!
The Christmas Ships will be stopping off at Gasworks for the finale at 9:45 on 12/23, as well.
Tuesday morning while walking Rainie the one one leg missing wonder dog, I spoke to a guy who tells me…….wait, wait, wait……they are breaking ground for the foundation work on the “PIT”. January 16th.
